Top 10 house plants for your bathroom

30-Sep-2020

It can be tricky to make your bathroom look like a nice, inviting space but, the addition of houseplants can make a huge difference. For tropical houseplants, the fluctuating temperature and constant humidity can provide the perfect environment for plants to survive and even thrive.

Whilst there are many plants that cannot survive in these conditions, if you find plants that enjoy the warm, humid environment that the bathroom has to offer, they will do extremely well.

When you’re choosing plants for your bathroom think of their native environment and if it’s a tropical environment, the chances are it will love your bathroom. Choosing the right plant is essential so here’s a list of the top 10 plants for your bathroom.

1. Pothos

Pothos are extremely easy to care so, if you’re a complete plant beginner and want to brighten up your bathroom with a little bit of greenery, this is the perfect plant. On the other hand, if you’re a seasoned plant parent, this plant will be an easy addition to your collection.

Pothos prefer moderate to low, indirect light so you could put this plant on your bathroom shelf. These plants are trailing and are prolific growers so you’ll have a beautiful trailing plant from your bathroom shelf in no time.

Whilst the bathroom can provide plants with extra moisture, Pothos don’t necessarily need it but they will tolerate low light levels and irregular watering.

Here’s a selection of Pothos you could use to decorate your bathroom:

2. Fiddle Leaf Fig

The Fiddle Leaf Fig (Ficus Lyrata) loves warm and wet conditions so is the perfect plant to make a statement in your bathroom. It’s available in a range of sizes so is suitable whether you have a large or small bathroom.

They have a reputation for being hard to care for but they’re more resilient than many think, especially when they’re kept in the bathroom!

Fiddle Leaf Figs need bright light consistently so, if you’ve got a bathroom with no windows, this probably isn’t the best plant. They love to be kept moist but make sure they’re planted in a well draining soil. If they’re left to sit in water for too long, the roots will start to rot and the plant will die.

3. Snake Plant

The Snake Plant (Sansevieria) is almost impossible to kill which makes it perfect for any bathroom and any plant lover, whether experienced or a novice.

It will grow much faster if it’s kept in a room with bright light but, if your bathroom is darker, it will still live and survive but you’ll find the growth much slowe.

The beauty of this plant is that is can tolerate desert-like conditions so it won’t mind if you forget to water it every now and again! They thrive on neglect so if you forget about your plants occasionally, this is probably the best plant for your bathroom.

4.Dumb Cane

Dumb Cane (also known as Diffenbachia) is another easy to care for, minimal maintenace plant that’s perfect for any bathroom and any plant lover. In fact, it’s one of the easiest species of houseplants to care for.

These plants only need to be watered when the soil’s dry a few inches below the surface and do not need much sunlight to grow so if you have minimal natural light in your bathroom, this probably a good choice.
