Senecio Peregrinus, also known as the String of Dolphins or Dolphin Necklace, is a unique and popular succulent plant prized for its dolphin-shaped leaves trailing along the stems. It's a hybrid of Senecio Rowleyanus (String of Pearls) and Senecio Articulatus (Candle Plant). Providing proper care for your String of Dolphins will ensure a happy and healthy plant. Here's a detailed care guide:

  1. Light: String of Dolphins prefers bright, indirect light or filtered sunlight. Place it near a south, east, or west-facing window. Too much direct sunlight may scorch the leaves, while insufficient light can lead to weak and leggy growth.

  2. Temperature: This succulent thrives in temperatures ranging from 55-80°F (13-27°C). It is not frost-tolerant, so if you live in an area with freezing temperatures, it's best to grow the plant indoors or move it inside during the colder months.

  3. Watering: As a succulent, the String of Dolphins stores water in its leaves and requires less frequent watering than other houseplants. Allow the top inch (2.5 cm) of soil to dry out before watering thoroughly, and then let the excess water drain. Over-watering can cause root rot, so be cautious not to let the plant sit in standing water.

  4. Soil: Use a well-draining, succulent or cactus potting mix to prevent root rot. You can create your own mix by combining equal parts potting soil, perlite or pumice, and coarse sand. Ensure the pot has drainage holes to allow excess water to escape.

  5. Fertilization: Fertilize your String of Dolphins sparingly, using a balanced, water-soluble fertilizer diluted to half strength. Feed the plant once every 4-6 weeks during the growing season (spring and summer) and avoid fertilizing during the dormant period (fall and winter).

  6. Repotting: Repot the plant every 2-3 years or when it becomes root-bound. Choose a pot one size larger than the current one, with drainage holes. Use fresh, well-draining succulent potting mix when repotting.

  7. Pruning: Trim the plant to maintain its size and shape or to remove any dead or yellowing leaves. Pruning can also encourage bushier growth. Use clean, sharp scissors or pruning shears to minimize the risk of disease transmission.

  8. Pest control: Inspect the plant regularly for pests like mealybugs, spider mites, and aphids. If an infestation is detected, remove affected leaves and treat the plant with insecticidal soap or neem oil.

  9. Propagation: String of Dolphins can be easily propagated through stem cuttings. Cut a healthy stem with several dolphin-shaped leaves, let it callous over for a day or two, and then place it in well-draining succulent soil. Keep the soil slightly moist, and roots should develop within a few weeks.

By following this care guide, your Senecio Peregrinus String of Dolphins will thrive, providing you with a unique and eye-catching addition to your home or garden.
