10 - 15cm Hoya Waymaniae Kapuas House Plant 10,5 cm Pot
Hoya wayetii 'Kapuas' is distinguished by its elongated, lanceolate leaves that often feature a deep green color with prominent veining. The edges of the leaves may exhibit a reddish tint, especially when the plant is exposed to bright, indirect light. This variety is particularly noted for its trailing growth habit, making it an excellent choice for hanging baskets or as a climbing plant when provided with support. The flowers of Hoya wayetii 'Kapuas' are typically small, star-shaped, and come in clusters (umbels). These blooms can vary in color but often have a creamy white hue with a pink or red center, emitting a delicate fragrance.
Care Guide
Lighting: Prefers bright, indirect light. It can tolerate some direct morning or late afternoon sunlight but avoid prolonged exposure to harsh midday sun to prevent leaf scorch. An east or west-facing window is ideal.
Watering: Allow the top inch of soil to dry out before watering again. Over-watering can lead to root rot, so ensure the potting mix is well-draining and the pot has drainage holes. Water less frequently during the winter months.
Humidity: Benefits from high humidity, typical of its tropical origin. Aim for humidity levels above 60%. You can increase humidity around the plant through misting, using a humidifier, or placing the plant on a pebble tray filled with water.
Temperature: Thrives in warm conditions, with temperatures ranging from 18°C to 29°C (65°F to 85°F). Protect the plant from cold drafts and sudden temperature drops, especially in winter.
Soil: A well-draining, airy potting mix is crucial. An orchid mix or a blend containing perlite, bark, and coco coir can provide the necessary drainage and aeration.
Feeding: Fertilize every 4-6 weeks during the growing season (spring and summer) with a balanced, water-soluble fertilizer diluted to half strength. Reduce feeding in autumn and withhold fertilizer during winter.
Repotting: Hoyas prefer to be slightly root-bound, so repotting every 2-3 years or when the plant has clearly outgrown its pot is sufficient. Spring is the best time for repotting.
Pest and Disease Management: Be vigilant for pests such as mealybugs, aphids, and spider mites. Treat infestations promptly with insecticidal soap or neem oil. Prevent root rot and fungal diseases by avoiding over-watering and ensuring good air circulation around the plant.
Hoya wayetii 'Kapuas', with its unique foliage and charming blooms, is a delightful addition to any indoor garden. By providing the right balance of light, humidity, and careful watering, this Hoya variety can thrive and bring a touch of the exotic to your home.
