The Perovskia, or ‘Russian sage ’, is a plant not commonly found in British gardens, but it is one that you should consider if you want to add a simple, country colour to your outdoor space. This sub-shrub is a herbaceous border plant that will thrive In cottage or gravel gardens. This plant produces long, aromatic stems that burst into life between late summer and early autumn when their small, lavender-like bright blue flowers bloom. This plant is a great attractor of pollinators and will bring a lot of beneficial wildlife into your garden. For the best effect, plant alongside eryngiums, rudbeckias and echinaceas.

Where to plant Perovskia plants
Choose a location with well-draining, acid and light soil that receives full sun throughout the day. Because of its need for acidic soil, this plant is best grown in a raised bed or container, giving you more control over the PH balance in the ground.

How to grow Perovskia plants
Water regularly to keep the soil moist but not wet, and apply a small amount of heavily diluted fertilizer at the beginning of the flowering season. Make sure to water the plants deep so that they develop a deep and robust root system Perovskia should be hard pruned until they are a few '' tall, just as they are beginning to produce leaves (around mid-April).
