Product Overview

Historically treasured for its calming properties, lavender is a fantastic herb to bring height, colour and a sweet fragrance into your garden. This is a compacta variety that has bright, evergreen foliage that creates well textured bushy displays. From June to August the elegant stems bloom into purple fluffy flowers. When flowering, the plant gives off a rich perfume that is both relaxing and inviting. In the kitchen lavender is a long-forgotten favourite. Used a lot in country cooking before the Second World War. It is an herb that goes brilliantly with desserts, try grinding some lavender into the sugar you use to make cakes and cookies or infuse into cream to make lavender scented ice cream. If you want a more savoury approach, mix lavender, mint and rosemary together and rub on lamb or chicken to rediscover a long-lost taste of British cooking.

How to grow lavender?
Plant in a well-draining soil that receives a lot of sun throughout the day. Lavender is a drought tolerant herb and will require little watering when established, however in the first few months’ water regularly to stimulate root growth. Over time the plant will become leggy. To stop this, prune once a year in April using shears to remove any spent flower stalks and about an inch of the new year’s growth.

How do I harvest lavender?
No matter if you want to cook with it or make scented oils and soaps, fresh lavender is always the best option. To harvest your lavender simply snip the flowers from the stems and then hang to dry in a warm place until you're ready to use it.

What is a perennial plant?
Unlike annuals, which only live for one season, perennial plants are a long-term solution to colour in your garden that will come back year after year. Typically, a perennial will only bloom for one season of the year, however there are long-blooming perennials. If grown in the right conditions and treated well a perennial can live between three and five years. For a garden that has colour all round you should plant a mix of annuals and perennials that bloom in different seasons.

Right Packaging

As an online plant store, we recognise the need to protect the environment and have thought very carefully about the packaging we use and where we buy it from to make sure your plants turn up in good condition with the least impact on the environment.

When it comes to packaging, our philosophy takes the following into account:

Sustainability - all of the packaging we used can be fully reused, recycled or composted. And, in the unfortunate event that it does make its way to landfill, it will biodegrade, leaving nothing but humus behind.

The right packaging for the job - we want our plants to arrive in perfect condition so we have designed packaging that holds your plants safely and securely inside the box, meaning they turn up in great condition.

What's our packaging made from?

Our outer packaging is made from corrugated cardboard. This cardboard can withstand the weight of your plants and is not susceptible to moisture so will remain strong and stable until your plants are delivered and you’re ready to unpack them. Not only that, it will keep your plants safe and undamaged in transit.

As well as being perfect for keeping your plants safe, corrugated cardboard is easy to recycle and is in keeping with our commitment to ensure we use the more environmentally friendly packaging as possible.

Packaging sustainability

We have chosen to partner with a packaging supplier that has the same environmental values as us. All packaging uses 85% recycled material and is 100% recyclable and compostable. This commitment to the environment is backed up by a Forestry Stewardship Council (FSC) accreditation and ISO 14001 accreditation for their environmental management system.
