More about your Dieffenbachia plant

This exotic houseplant is native to the tropics of Mexico and the West Indies and is a decorative plant that can easily adapt for both the home and the office. It’s common name of ‘dumb cane’ comes from the side effect coming in direct contact with it’s sap. These easy to look after plants make a great addition the home, but should be kept out of reach of pets and children

How do I look after my Dieffenbachia?

These plants will thrive in bright, but indirect light, if the leaves begin to discolour or burn then you should move the plant to a more shaded area. They like well-draining soil and should be watered to keep the soil moist, but not soggy. Rotate your Dieffenbachia regularly so that different parts of the plant are exposed to the light to create even colour and growth.

Are Dieffenbachia toxic?

There is a lot of disinformation out there about the Dieffenbachia and its toxicity. The sap of the plant can be mildly toxic, but only if ingested. As long as you carefully handle these plants and wash your hands thoroughly if they do come into contact with the sap then you will find yourself easily living in harmony with these beautiful plants.
