Due to the sensitive and breakable nature of our products, it's understandable that damages may occur despite our meticulous packaging methods. If you find that your plant or pot has arrived in a less than satisfactory condition, please reach out to us at hello@plantsforallseasons.co.uk within a month of your delivery date. When contacting us, please provide your order reference, alongside a photo clearly showing the damaged item and its packaging, including the delivery label. We are committed to resolving such issues by offering a refund or a replacement, depending on the availability of the item in question.
We are unable to accept returns that are not related to damage because plants are inherently perishable and delicate. It's also worth noting that the plant you receive may slightly differ from the images displayed on our website. This variation is natural, given that each plant is unique and subject to seasonal growth changes.
At Plants for all Seasons, we recognise the critical role our courier partners play in ensuring the safe and secure delivery of your plants. Chamaedorea elegans, widely known as the Parlour Palm, is a graceful, compact palm that has been adorning indoor spaces since the Victorian era. Native to the rainforests of Southern Mexico and Guatemala, it earned its name for being a popular choice in high-society parlours — prized for its ability to thrive in low light and tolerate cooler indoor temperatures better than most tropical plants.
This palm features multiple slender, bamboo-like stems that rise from the soil, each bearing a fountain of soft, arching fronds made up of narrow, bright green leaflets. The foliage is elegant and finely textured, giving the plant a light, airy presence that brings calm and sophistication to any room. As it matures, the plant retains a compact footprint, typically reaching 60–120 cm indoors, though with time and care, it can grow taller.
Unlike many other indoor palms, Chamaedorea elegans is slow-growing and low-maintenance, making it especially well-suited to smaller spaces, office desks, or as part of a grouped plant display. It’s also one of the few truly pet-safe houseplants, making it a top pick for households with curious animals.
Prefers moderate to bright, indirect light but is highly tolerant of low light conditions, which makes it ideal for shaded rooms or north-facing windows.
Avoid direct sun, especially midday rays, which can scorch the delicate fronds and cause browning.
Will grow more slowly in very low light, but usually maintains good form and colour.
Water when the top 2–3 cm of soil feels dry.
Use room-temperature water and water evenly until it runs out the bottom — allow excess to drain.
In winter, allow the soil to dry out a little more between waterings.
Avoid overwatering — this is the most common cause of root rot. Yellowing lower fronds may be an early warning.
Thrives in temperatures between 16–24°C.
Tolerates cooler temperatures down to 10°C for short periods.
Prefers moderate humidity but adapts well to normal household air.
In drier environments, increase humidity with:
Occasional misting
A pebble tray
Grouping with other plants
Use a well-draining, peat-free potting mix suitable for indoor foliage plants.
A blend of compost, coco coir, and perlite or sand works well.
Ensure the pot has good drainage holes to prevent standing water.
Feed every 4–6 weeks in spring and summer with a diluted, balanced liquid fertiliser.
Reduce or stop feeding in autumn and winter when the plant’s growth naturally slows.
Trim brown or yellowing fronds at the base with clean scissors to maintain appearance.
Do not cut into healthy green fronds — the plant relies on them for photosynthesis.
Wipe fronds gently with a soft, damp cloth to remove dust.
Repot every 2–3 years, or when roots begin to fill the pot.
Parlour Palms prefer to be slightly root-bound and can become stressed if over-potted.
Not typically propagated at home — professional growers use seed propagation, which is slow and requires specific conditions.
It's best to buy established plants rather than attempt propagation.
Non-toxic to cats, dogs, and humans, making it one of the safest choices for pet-friendly homes.
