Hemionitis arifolia, also known as the Heart Fern or Shield Fern, is a delicate and beautiful fern that is popular among houseplant enthusiasts. Here are some care tips for keeping your Hemionitis arifolia healthy and thriving:

  1. Light: Hemionitis arifolia plants prefer bright, indirect light. They can tolerate some direct sunlight in the morning or late afternoon, but avoid exposing them to direct sun for extended periods as it can burn the leaves.

  2. Watering: Water your Hemionitis arifolia plant when the top inch of soil feels dry to the touch. Be sure to water it thoroughly and let the excess water drain away. Avoid overwatering, as it can lead to root rot.

  3. Humidity: Hemionitis arifolia plants prefer high humidity. You can increase the humidity around your plant by placing a tray of pebbles filled with water beneath the pot or using a humidifier.

  4. Soil: Use well-draining soil for your Hemionitis arifolia plant. A mix of peat moss, perlite, and sand is ideal.

  5. Fertilizer: Hemionitis arifolia plants benefit from regular fertilization. Use a balanced liquid fertilizer every 2-3 weeks during the growing season (spring and summer).

  6. Pruning: Prune your Hemionitis arifolia plant to control its size and shape. Remove any dead or yellowing leaves, and prune back any leggy growth.

  7. Temperature: Hemionitis arifolia plants prefer temperatures between 60-75°F (15-24°C). Avoid exposing them to temperatures below 55°F (13°C) or above 85°F (29°C).

  8. Repotting: Repot your Hemionitis arifolia plant every 1-2 years, or when it outgrows its current pot. Choose a pot that is one size larger than its current pot, and use fresh potting soil.

By following these care tips, you can keep your Hemionitis arifolia plant healthy and thriving, and enjoy its delicate and beautiful foliage for years to come.

Tropical Glasshouse Nursery: Our plants are nurtured in our tropical glasshouse nursery located in Lincolnshire, where we maintain an average temperature of 16°C. We do not use cold warehouses, ensuring optimal conditions for plant health.

Plastic Nursery Pots: All our plants are supplied in practical plastic nursery pots. If you prefer a more decorative option, we offer a range of stylish pots available for purchase separately.

Non-Consumable: Please note that our plants are intended for ornamental purposes only unless specifically stated as edible. Ensure you check product descriptions carefully if you are looking for edible varieties.

Variable Heights: The height of our plants can vary by approximately +/- 10%. This natural fluctuation ensures you receive a unique and healthy specimen.

Plant Pot Sizes: Pot sizes may vary by approximately +/- 1cm. To ensure a proper fit, we recommend selecting a decorative pot that is 1-2cm larger than the stated plant pot size. For instance, if you purchase a plant in a 17cm pot, a 18 - 19cm decorative pot would be ideal.

Quarantining: All our houseplants are regularly sprayed with a preventative systemic bug treatment. We do our best to ensure a bug free growing environment however sometimes these can unfortunately be missed, as such we always recommend quarantining plants when they first enter your home and checking them upon arrival for bugs.
