Due to the sensitive and breakable nature of our products, it's understandable that damages may occur despite our meticulous packaging methods. If you find that your plant or pot has arrived in a less than satisfactory condition, please reach out to us at hello@plantsforallseasons.co.uk within a month of your delivery date. When contacting us, please provide your order reference, alongside a photo clearly showing the damaged item and its packaging, including the delivery label. We are committed to resolving such issues by offering a refund or a replacement, depending on the availability of the item in question.
We are unable to accept returns that are not related to damage because plants are inherently perishable and delicate. It's also worth noting that the plant you receive may slightly differ from the images displayed on our website. This variation is natural, given that each plant is unique and subject to seasonal growth changes.

Ficus cyathistipula, commonly known as the African Fig, is a beautiful evergreen indoor tree admired for its large, glossy green leaves and exceptional resilience. Native to the tropical forests of Central Africa, this elegant Ficus is considered one of the easiest species in the genus to care for, making it an excellent choice for both beginners and experienced plant enthusiasts.
Its broad, leathery leaves have a rich, glossy green finish and are slightly elongated with gently pointed tips, creating a lush, tropical appearance throughout the year. Unlike some other Ficus species, Ficus cyathistipula is less prone to dropping its leaves when environmental conditions change, making it a more forgiving and reliable houseplant.
With its upright growth, strong branching and dense canopy, the African Fig makes a striking statement in living rooms, offices, conservatories and reception areas. Indoors, it typically grows to 1.5–3 metres in height, depending on the size of the pot and growing conditions.
Ficus cyathistipula thrives in bright, indirect light, although it is more tolerant of moderate light than many other Ficus varieties.
Place it near an east or west-facing window, or slightly back from a bright south-facing window. Bright conditions encourage fuller growth and larger, healthier leaves.
Avoid prolonged exposure to harsh midday sunshine, which may scorch the foliage.
Water when the top 3–5cm of compost feels dry.
Water thoroughly until excess water drains from the bottom of the pot, then empty any remaining water from the saucer or decorative pot. Allow the compost to dry slightly between waterings, as constantly wet soil can lead to root rot.
Reduce watering during autumn and winter while growth naturally slows.
Average household humidity is generally suitable for Ficus cyathistipula.
Although it appreciates moderate humidity, it adapts well to most indoor environments without requiring regular misting.
Maintain temperatures between 18°C and 27°C.
Avoid temperatures below 15°C, and protect the plant from cold draughts, air conditioning and sudden temperature changes.
Use a free-draining, nutrient-rich houseplant compost.
A mix containing compost, perlite and fine orchid bark provides excellent drainage while retaining enough moisture for healthy root development.
Always grow the plant in a pot with drainage holes.
Feed every 2–4 weeks throughout spring and summer using a balanced liquid houseplant fertiliser.
Reduce feeding during autumn and stop during winter while growth slows.
Repot every 2–3 years, or when the roots begin filling the pot.
Move into a pot only one size larger and repot during spring.
Ficus cyathistipula has a moderate growth rate in bright conditions.
Expected indoor size:
Height: 1.5–3m
Spread: 60–150cm
Regular pruning can help maintain a compact, bushy shape if desired.
Prune during spring or early summer to shape the plant and encourage denser growth.
Remove any damaged, yellowing or crossing branches as required.
Like other Ficus species, the stems release a milky white sap when cut, so gloves are recommended.
Ficus cyathistipula is toxic if ingested and should be kept away from pets and young children.
Its milky sap may also cause mild skin irritation in sensitive individuals.
Yellow leaves are usually caused by overwatering or poor drainage.
Allow the compost to dry slightly between waterings and ensure excess water drains away freely.
Brown leaf edges are commonly caused by:
Dry indoor air
Inconsistent watering
Low humidity
Maintaining even moisture and avoiding prolonged drought will usually prevent this issue.
Although Ficus cyathistipula is more resistant to leaf drop than many Ficus species, it may still occur following:
Sudden temperature changes
Moving the plant
Overwatering
Underwatering
Cold draughts
Providing stable growing conditions will encourage healthy new growth.
Slow growth may be caused by insufficient light or a lack of nutrients.
Move the plant to a brighter position and feed regularly during spring and summer.
Occasionally affected by:
Spider mites
Mealybugs
Scale insects
Inspect the leaves regularly and treat infestations promptly using an appropriate houseplant insecticide or insecticidal soap.
Yes. It is one of the easiest and most forgiving Ficus species, making it an excellent choice for beginners.
Water when the top few centimetres of compost feel dry. Avoid allowing the compost to remain constantly wet.
Yes. It tolerates moderate light better than many other Ficus varieties, although bright, indirect light encourages the healthiest growth.
While less common than with other Ficus species, leaf drop can occur following sudden environmental changes, inconsistent watering or cold temperatures.
With good care, it typically grows between 1.5 and 3 metres, making it an impressive indoor tree for larger rooms and offices.
With its large glossy leaves, elegant tree-like form and remarkably easy-going nature, Ficus cyathistipula is one of the most dependable indoor trees you can grow. More tolerant than many other Ficus varieties and beautifully architectural, it brings lush tropical greenery, structure and timeless style to any bright indoor space.
