Due to the sensitive and breakable nature of our products, it's understandable that damages may occur despite our meticulous packaging methods. If you find that your plant or pot has arrived in a less than satisfactory condition, please reach out to us at hello@plantsforallseasons.co.uk within a month of your delivery date. When contacting us, please provide your order reference, alongside a photo clearly showing the damaged item and its packaging, including the delivery label. We are committed to resolving such issues by offering a refund or a replacement, depending on the availability of the item in question.
We are unable to accept returns that are not related to damage because plants are inherently perishable and delicate. It's also worth noting that the plant you receive may slightly differ from the images displayed on our website. Pellionia repens ‘Variegata’ is a rare and delicate trailing plant from the Urticaceae family, native to Southeast Asia. Sometimes called the Trailing Watermelon Begonia (though not a true begonia), this species is prized for its intricate variegation and cascading habit, making it a stunning choice for terrariums, hanging baskets, and tropical indoor displays.
The leaves are small and oval, featuring an enchanting mix of soft green, silver, and cream with subtle bronze or purple tones. Each leaf appears almost hand-painted, and under the right light, the variegation shimmers gently. Its fine stems grow gracefully outward or downward, creating a dense mat of lush, patterned foliage.
Compact and fast-growing in humid conditions, Pellionia repens ‘Variegata’ is both elegant and versatile — ideal for adding texture and colour to small tropical spaces or enclosed glass gardens.
Prefers bright, indirect light or dappled shade. Too much direct sunlight may fade the variegation or scorch the leaves. Perfect for terrariums or east-facing windowsills.
Keep soil consistently moist but never waterlogged. Water when the top 1–2 cm of soil feels just dry to the touch. This species dislikes drying out completely and thrives on gentle, regular watering.
Temperature: Thrives in warmth, 18–26°C. Avoid cold draughts and temperatures below 15°C.
Humidity: Requires high humidity (60–80%) to prevent leaf crisping. Ideal for terrariums, greenhouse cabinets, or humid rooms like bathrooms.
Use a light, moisture-retentive, yet free-draining mix — peat-free houseplant compost blended with perlite, coco coir, and sphagnum moss works well. Repot annually or as needed to refresh soil and maintain vigour.
Feed every 4–6 weeks during spring and summer with a weak, balanced fertiliser. Avoid overfeeding, which can damage delicate roots.
Trim trailing stems regularly to maintain a neat shape and encourage bushier growth. Cuttings root easily in water or directly in soil. Remove any yellow or damaged leaves to promote new growth.
A fast-growing, compact trailing plant that can reach 20–30 cm in length. It spreads quickly, forming a dense carpet of intricate foliage under ideal conditions.
Crispy edges: Low humidity or inconsistent watering.
Yellowing leaves: Overwatering or poor drainage.
Leggy growth: Insufficient light.
Pests: Occasionally mealybugs, aphids, or fungus gnats.
Pellionia repens is native to the humid forests of Southeast Asia, where it grows as a groundcover or epiphyte on mossy rocks and tree trunks. The ‘Variegata’ cultivar enhances its natural beauty with additional cream and silver tones, making it a favourite among terrarium and tropical plant collectors. Its compact growth and tolerance for high humidity make it especially suitable for enclosed environments.
