Due to the sensitive and breakable nature of our products, it's understandable that damages may occur despite our meticulous packaging methods. If you find that your plant or pot has arrived in a less than satisfactory condition, please reach out to us at hello@plantsforallseasons.co.uk within a month of your delivery date. When contacting us, please provide your order reference, alongside a photo clearly showing the damaged item and its packaging, including the delivery label. We are committed to resolving such issues by offering a refund or a replacement, depending on the availability of the item in question.
We are unable to accept returns that are not related to damage because plants are inherently perishable and delicate. It's also worth noting that the plant you receive may slightly differ from the images displayed on our website. This variation is natural, given that each plant is unique and subject to seasonal growth changes.

Alocasia reginula ‘Black Velvet’ is one of the most stunning and compact jewel Alocasias, adored for its dramatic contrast of dark, velvety foliage and bright silver-white veins. A member of the Araceae family and native to the humid rainforests of Borneo, this rare species is prized by collectors for its rich, luxurious texture and compact form — making it perfect for smaller spaces or display collections.
Each heart-shaped leaf is thick, soft, and velvety to the touch, with an almost black-green surface that catches light like fine fabric. The striking silvery veins create a bold contrast, giving the plant a regal, sculptural appearance. Compact and slow-growing, Alocasia ‘Black Velvet’ brings an air of tropical sophistication to any indoor setting — a plant that’s as elegant as it is easy to admire.
Thrives in bright, indirect light. Avoid direct sunlight, which can scorch the velvety leaves. Too little light may cause slower growth and smaller leaves. A bright east- or north-facing window is ideal.
Keep the soil consistently moist but never waterlogged. Water when the top 2–3 cm of soil feels dry, allowing excess water to drain completely. Alocasia ‘Black Velvet’ dislikes standing water but is also sensitive to drying out completely — maintain steady moisture for best results.
Temperature: Prefers warmth between 18–28 °C; avoid cold drafts and temperatures below 15 °C.
Humidity: High humidity (60–80%) keeps the velvety foliage lush and prevents browning edges. Mist regularly, use a humidifier, or place on a pebble tray to maintain ideal conditions.
Use a light, airy, and moisture-retentive aroid mix — compost combined with perlite, orchid bark, and coco coir provides the right balance of drainage and hydration. Repot every 1–2 years in spring to refresh the soil and encourage healthy root growth.
Feed every 4–6 weeks during spring and summer with a diluted, balanced liquid fertiliser. Avoid over-fertilising, which can cause leaf burn or salt build-up. Suspend feeding during autumn and winter when growth naturally slows.
Remove yellowing or damaged leaves near the base to maintain a neat appearance and promote new growth. Wipe leaves gently with a soft, damp cloth to remove dust and preserve their velvety texture. Rotate occasionally for even light exposure.
A slow-growing, compact species, Alocasia ‘Black Velvet’ typically reaches 25–40 cm in height and spread indoors. Each leaf can grow up to 15 cm long under ideal conditions. During winter dormancy, it may temporarily lose some leaves — reduce watering and resume normal care when new growth appears in spring.
Yellowing leaves: Overwatering or poor drainage.
Brown edges: Low humidity or inconsistent watering.
Drooping leaves: Cold air or under-watering.
Pests: Occasionally affected by spider mites or thrips — maintain humidity and treat with neem oil if necessary.
Native to Borneo’s shaded forest floors, Alocasia reginula thrives in humid, dappled environments where its dark leaves absorb limited light efficiently. The cultivar ‘Black Velvet’ was selected for its compact size and intensely dark foliage, making it one of the most desirable jewel Alocasias for indoor growing.
Symbolically, Alocasias represent strength, resilience, and transformation — qualities perfectly embodied by the regal presence of ‘Black Velvet’. Its unique velvet finish and manageable size make it a favourite for both collectors and interior designers.
