Begonia 'Amphioxus Γ malachosticta' is a rare and highly desirable hybrid that combines the extraordinary characteristics of two iconic species: Begonia amphioxus and Begonia malachosticta. The result is an exotic foliage plant with elongated, wing-shaped leaves decorated with vibrant red spotting, rich green tones and distinctive burgundy undersides.
The foliage is unlike almost any other houseplant, with narrow leaves inherited from Begonia amphioxus complemented by the striking red spotting and velvety texture associated with Begonia malachosticta. As the plant matures, it develops into a compact yet architectural specimen that is highly prized by begonia collectors.
This hybrid thrives in warm, humid conditions and is particularly well suited to terrariums, indoor plant cabinets or bright rooms with consistently high humidity. While it requires a little more attention than common begonias, the spectacular foliage makes it well worth the effort.
This hybrid prefers bright, filtered light similar to the rainforest understory.
A position near an east-facing window or behind a sheer curtain works particularly well.
Keep the compost consistently lightly moist but never saturated.
Allow the top 1β2cm of compost to dry slightly before watering.

The delicate foliage should be handled carefully.

Although attractive, the foliage remains the plant's primary ornamental feature.
Begonia 'Amphioxus Γ malachosticta' has a compact, upright and branching growth habit.
It is ideal for:
Most mature plants reach approximately 20β40cm tall, forming a dense clump of highly ornamental foliage.
Begonia 'Amphioxus Γ malachosticta' is an exceptional collector's hybrid that combines the best characteristics of two of the most spectacular begonia species. Its elongated leaves, vibrant red spotting and richly coloured undersides create an exotic display unlike almost any other houseplant. With bright, indirect light, consistently high humidity and careful watering, this remarkable hybrid rewards growers with year-round foliage that becomes increasingly impressive as the plant matures. Perfect for terrariums, plant cabinets and rare plant collections, it is a true centrepiece for any indoor jungle.
