Due to the sensitive and breakable nature of our products, it's understandable that damages may occur despite our meticulous packaging methods. If you find that your plant or pot has arrived in a less than satisfactory condition, please reach out to us at hello@plantsforallseasons.co.uk within a month of your delivery date. When contacting us, please provide your order reference, alongside a photo clearly showing the damaged item and its packaging, including the delivery label. We are committed to resolving such issues by offering a refund or a replacement, depending on the availability of the item in question.
We are unable to accept returns that are not related to damage because plants are inherently perishable and delicate. It's also worth noting that the plant you receive may slightly differ from the images displayed on our website. This variation is natural, given that each plant is unique and subject to seasonal growth changes.
At Plants for all Seasons, we recognise the critical role our courier partners play in ensuring the safe and secure delivery of your plants. We collaborate exclusively with leading courier services, renowned for their reliability and exceptional handling practices, to ensure your plants arrive in perfect condition. Licuala grandis, commonly known as the Ruffled Fan Palm or Vanuatu Fan Palm, is a stunning tropical species native to the rainforests of Vanuatu in the South Pacific. It’s celebrated for its exquisite, pleated, fan-shaped leaves that emerge in nearly perfect circles, creating a graceful, umbrella-like effect. Each leaf is rich, glossy green with elegantly rippled edges and prominent veins, making it one of the most visually dramatic indoor palms available.
Slow-growing and compact, Licuala grandis is ideal for statement indoor displays, tropical-themed interiors, and luxury plant collections. While it can eventually grow tall in its native habitat, indoors it tends to remain manageable in height (1–2 metres over many years), making it suitable for bright rooms, conservatories, or atriums.
Its architectural silhouette and refined foliage make it a favourite for interior designers and plant lovers seeking something truly eye-catching.
Prefers bright, indirect light – filtered sunlight mimics its natural understory habitat.
Can tolerate light shade, but growth will slow.
Avoid direct midday sun, which can scorch the leaves, especially in south-facing windows.
In low-light environments, leaf size may reduce, and the plant may lean toward the light.
Keep soil evenly moist but never soggy.
Water when the top 2–3cm of soil feels dry. In warmer months, this may be every 5–7 days; in cooler months, every 10–14 days.
Water less frequently in winter but never allow the soil to dry out completely.
Use lukewarm, non-chlorinated water if possible, as the plant can be sensitive to chemicals.
High humidity is essential – ideally 60% or higher.
If your indoor environment is dry (common with radiators or central heating), boost humidity by:
Using a humidifier,
Placing on a tray with pebbles and water (without letting roots sit in water),
Grouping with other humidity-loving plants, or
Light misting, especially on warm days.
Warmth-loving and sensitive to cold.
Ideal range: 18–28°C.
Should never be exposed to temperatures below 15°C.
Avoid cold draughts, sudden temperature drops, and placement near air vents or radiators.
Needs a well-draining, moisture-retentive potting mix.
Ideal blend: 2 parts peat-free houseplant compost, 1 part perlite, 1 part coconut coir or orchid bark.
Drainage holes are essential – root rot is the most common issue with Licuala.
Feed every 4–6 weeks during the growing season (spring to early autumn) with a balanced, diluted liquid fertiliser or a palm-specific feed.
Avoid overfeeding, which can cause salt build-up in the soil and leaf tip burn.
Do not feed in winter when growth naturally slows.
Minimal pruning is needed.
Remove dead or yellowing lower leaves using clean, sharp scissors or secateurs.
Avoid cutting the crown (central growing point), as this may kill the plant.
Wipe leaves gently with a damp cloth to remove dust and keep them glossy.
Repot every 2–3 years or when rootbound, ideally in spring.
Choose a tall, heavy pot to help balance the plant as it matures.
Avoid disturbing the roots too much during repotting – Licuala dislikes root shock.
Generally pest-resistant in ideal conditions, but susceptible to:
Spider mites in dry air (look for webbing or speckled leaves),
Mealybugs or scale insects on leaf undersides.
Brown leaf edges are often due to low humidity, underwatering, or chemical sensitivity (fluoride, chlorine).
Yellowing leaves may indicate overwatering, poor drainage, or nutrient deficiency.
Non-toxic to humans and pets, making it a safe choice for households with children or animals.
Stability matters: As the plant grows, the broad leaves can make it top-heavy – consider a wide, weighted pot.
Patience is key: Licuala grandis grows slowly but rewards care with striking, dramatic foliage.
Humidity is non-negotiable: It’s the most critical factor for long-term success indoors.
