Due to the sensitive and breakable nature of our products, it's understandable that damages may occur despite our meticulous packaging methods. If you find that your plant or pot has arrived in a less than satisfactory condition, please reach out to us at hello@plantsforallseasons.co.uk within a month of your delivery date. When contacting us, please provide your order reference, alongside a photo clearly showing the damaged item and its packaging, including the delivery label. We are committed to resolving such issues by offering a refund or a replacement, depending on the availability of the item in question.
We are unable to accept returns that are not related to damage because plants are inherently perishable and delicate. It's also worth noting that the plant you receive may slightly differ from the images displayed on our website. This variation is natural, given that each plant is unique and subject to seasonal growth changes.

Alocasia portei, commonly known as the Malayan Sword, is a striking tropical aroid admired for its tall, upright growth and dramatic, deeply lobed foliage. A member of the Araceae family and native to the tropical rainforests of the Philippines, this majestic species brings a bold, architectural presence to any indoor or conservatory space.
Its large, arrowhead-shaped leaves are glossy green with pronounced veins and slightly undulating edges, held aloft by sturdy, dark petioles that give the plant height and poise. Mature specimens form impressive clumps, with leaves that can reach up to 1 metre long indoors, creating an instant tropical focal point.
Powerful yet elegant, Alocasia portei embodies everything plant collectors love about Alocasias — lush texture, sculptural form, and an unmistakable rainforest allure.
Thrives in bright, indirect light. Mimic its natural rainforest habitat by providing filtered sunlight or dappled shade. Too much direct sun can scorch the leaves, while too little light may result in smaller leaves and slower growth.
Keep the soil consistently moist but not soggy. Water when the top 2–3 cm of soil feels dry, ensuring thorough drainage. Alocasia portei dislikes sitting in water but is equally sensitive to drying out completely. In winter, reduce watering slightly as growth slows.
Temperature: Prefers warmth between 18–28 °C. Protect from cold drafts or sudden temperature changes. Avoid temperatures below 15 °C.
Humidity: High humidity (60–80%) is essential. Mist regularly, use a humidifier, or place near other tropical plants to maintain moisture around the foliage.
Use a rich, airy, and well-draining aroid mix — compost combined with perlite, orchid bark, and coco coir works perfectly. Repot every 1–2 years in spring to refresh nutrients and support root development. Choose a pot with excellent drainage and space for its thick, fleshy roots.
Feed every 4–6 weeks during spring and summer with a diluted, balanced liquid fertiliser. Avoid over-fertilising, as this can cause leaf tip burn. Suspend feeding in autumn and winter.
Remove any yellow or damaged leaves at the base to maintain shape and encourage new growth. Wipe leaves gently with a soft, damp cloth to remove dust and showcase their glossy finish. Rotate occasionally for even light exposure and balanced growth.
A fast-growing species under the right conditions, Alocasia portei can reach 1.2–1.5 metres tall indoors. Its dramatic upright form and sword-like leaves make it one of the most commanding Alocasia species available. During cooler months, it may enter dormancy — reduce watering and allow it to rest until new growth emerges in spring.
Yellow leaves: Overwatering or poor drainage.
Brown edges: Low humidity or irregular watering.
Drooping leaves: Sudden temperature drops or under-watering.
Pests: Occasionally affected by spider mites or thrips — treat promptly with neem oil or insecticidal soap.
Native to the humid tropical rainforests of the Philippines, Alocasia portei grows naturally beneath the canopy, where it benefits from diffused light, warmth, and high humidity. Its large, upright leaves help capture filtered light while channelling rainwater toward its roots — a feature shared with many rainforest Alocasias.
This species is ideal for creating height and structure in plant displays and works beautifully as a floor-standing statement plant. While not a major air purifier, it contributes to improving indoor air quality and provides an unmistakable tropical ambience.

It pairs beautifully with broad-leaved companions such as Monstera deliciosa or Philodendron ‘Imperial Green’ for a rich, tropical canopy effect. For contrast, position alongside lighter or variegated species like Calathea orbifolia or Syngonium ‘White Butterfly’. Use a tall, sculptural pot to complement its elegant stature — a perfect choice for interiors that embrace bold, natural design.
