Due to the sensitive and breakable nature of our products, it's understandable that damages may occur despite our meticulous packaging methods. If you find that your plant or pot has arrived in a less than satisfactory condition, please reach out to us at hello@plantsforallseasons.co.uk within a month of your delivery date. When contacting us, please provide your order reference, alongside a photo clearly showing the damaged item and its packaging, including the delivery label. We are committed to resolving such issues by offering a refund or a replacement, depending on the availability of the item in question.
We are unable to accept returns that are not related to damage because plants are inherently perishable and delicate. It's also worth noting that the plant you receive may slightly differ from the images displayed on our website. This variation is natural, given that each plant is unique and subject to seasonal growth changes.
At Plants for all Seasons, we recognise the critical role our courier partners play in ensuring the safe and secure delivery of your plants. We collaborate exclusively with leading courier services, renowned for their reliability and exceptional handling practices, to ensure your plants arrive in perfect condition. Alocasia cuprea ‘Red Secret’ is one of the most extraordinary foliage plants in the Alocasia genus. Its thick, highly glossy leaves have an almost metallic, lacquered appearance, shifting between deep burgundy, copper and dark green depending on the light.
The rounded, shield-like foliage looks almost artificial due to its intense sheen and pronounced veining. Compact and slow-growing, ‘Red Secret’ is a true collector’s plant and makes a dramatic statement in smaller spaces.
🌿 Metallic copper to burgundy foliage
🌿 Highly glossy, almost mirror-like leaves
🌿 Deeply textured veining
🌿 Compact and architectural
🌿 Rare and collector-focused variety
Bright, indirect light is essential.
East-facing or bright north-facing windows are ideal
Avoid direct sunlight, which can scorch leaves
Too little light dulls colour and slows growth
Bright, filtered light enhances its metallic sheen.
Alocasia cuprea prefers consistent but careful watering.
Allow the top 2–3cm of soil to dry before watering
Keep soil lightly moist during active growth
Reduce watering significantly in winter
Important:
Ensure excellent drainage
Never allow it to sit in water
Overwatering is the most common cause of failure.
High humidity helps maintain healthy foliage.
Ideal range: 60–80%
Benefits greatly from a humidifier
Avoid dry air from heating
Low humidity can cause browning edges or leaf curling.
Ideal: 18–26°C
Avoid temperatures below 16°C
Protect from draughts and sudden temperature changes
Stable warmth is key for this tropical species.
Use a chunky, well-draining mix:
Peat-free houseplant compost
Perlite
Orchid bark
Good airflow around the roots prevents rot.
Feed during spring and summer:
Balanced liquid fertiliser every 3–4 weeks
Reduce feeding in autumn
Do not feed during winter dormancy
It is a slow grower and does not require heavy feeding.
Upright and compact
Typically grows 30–40cm tall
Thick leaves emerge from a central rhizome
Growth is slower compared to many other Alocasias.
May slow down or partially go dormant in cooler months.
Reduce watering
Keep warm and bright
Avoid fertilising
Some leaf loss in winter can occur if conditions drop.
Best propagated via rhizome division during spring repotting.
This is typically done by experienced growers.
Yellow leaves
Overwatering
Soft stems or base
Root rot
Brown edges
Low humidity
Leaf drop
Temperature stress or dormancy
Perfect for dark, moody interiors
Looks stunning in black, metallic or neutral pots
Ideal for plant cabinets
Pairs beautifully with textured foliage plants
Its metallic sheen makes it a standout specimen in any rare plant collection.
Like other Alocasias, it is toxic if ingested by pets or humans. Keep out of reach of cats and dogs.
