Due to the sensitive and breakable nature of our products, it's understandable that damages may occur despite our meticulous packaging methods. If you find that your plant or pot has arrived in a less than satisfactory condition, please reach out to us at hello@plantsforallseasons.co.uk within a month of your delivery date. When contacting us, please provide your order reference, alongside a photo clearly showing the damaged item and its packaging, including the delivery label. We are committed to resolving such issues by offering a refund or a replacement, depending on the availability of the item in question.
We are unable to accept returns that are not related to damage because plants are inherently perishable and delicate. It's also worth noting that the plant you receive may slightly differ from the images displayed on our website. This variation is natural, given that each plant is unique and subject to seasonal growth changes.
At Plants for all Seasons, we recognise the critical role our courier partners play in ensuring the safe and secure delivery of your plants. We collaborate exclusively with leading courier services, renowned for their reliability and exceptional handling practices, to ensure your plants arrive in perfect condition. Alocasia melo is a rare, slow-growing species prized for its thick, heavily textured foliage and cool-toned colouring. Unlike many glossy Alocasias, this variety has firm, almost stone-like leaves with a matte, blue-green to silvery-grey finish.
Native to Borneo, it remains compact and architectural, making it ideal for collectors who love unusual foliage texture. Its sculptural appearance gives it a bold presence despite its relatively small size.
As part of the Alocasia genus, it shares similar care needs with other Alocasias but prefers slightly more controlled watering due to its thick leaves.

🌿 Collector’s favourite species
Bright, indirect light is essential.
East or bright north-facing windows are ideal
Avoid direct sunlight
Too little light slows growth
It tolerates slightly lower light better than some Alocasias but thrives in bright conditions.
Alocasia melo prefers consistent but careful watering.
Allow the top 3–4cm of soil to dry before watering
Keep soil lightly moist during active growth
Reduce watering significantly in winter
Important:
Never allow it to sit in water
Use pots with good drainage
Overwatering is the most common issue with this species.
Prefers moderate to high humidity.
Ideal range: 60%+
Benefits from a humidifier
Avoid very dry air
Although its leaves are thick, it still appreciates stable humidity.
Ideal: 18–26°C
Avoid temperatures below 16°C
Protect from draughts
It dislikes sudden temperature fluctuations.
Use a chunky, well-draining mix:
Peat-free houseplant compost
Perlite
Orchid bark
Good aeration is crucial to prevent root rot.
Feed during spring and summer:
Balanced liquid fertiliser every 3–4 weeks
Reduce feeding in autumn
Do not feed during dormancy
As a slow grower, it does not require heavy feeding.
Upright, compact form
Typically grows 30–40cm tall
Produces thick, firm leaves from a central rhizome
Growth is slower than many other Alocasias.
In cooler months, it may slow down or partially go dormant.
Reduce watering
Keep warm and bright
Do not fertilise
Leaf loss in winter can occur if conditions drop too low.
Propagation is typically done by rhizome division during spring repotting.
This is best attempted by experienced growers.
Yellow leaves
Overwatering
Soft stems
Root rot
Brown edges
Low humidity
Leaf drop in winter
Dormancy or cold stress
Perfect for minimalist interiors
Pairs beautifully with glossy foliage plants
Ideal for plant cabinets
Looks striking in neutral or stone-toned pots
Its textured, almost sculptural foliage makes it a standout specimen plant.
Like other Alocasias, it is toxic if ingested by pets or humans. Keep out of reach of cats and dogs.
