Due to the sensitive and breakable nature of our products, it's understandable that damages may occur despite our meticulous packaging methods. If you find that your plant or pot has arrived in a less than satisfactory condition, please reach out to us at hello@plantsforallseasons.co.uk within a month of your delivery date. When contacting us, please provide your order reference, alongside a photo clearly showing the damaged item and its packaging, including the delivery label. We are committed to resolving such issues by offering a refund or a replacement, depending on the availability of the item in question.
We are unable to accept returns that are not related to damage because plants are inherently perishable and delicate. It's also worth noting that the plant you receive may slightly differ from the images displayed on our website. This variation is natural, given that each plant is unique and subject to seasonal growth changes.

Hoya polyneura, commonly known as the Fishtail Hoya, is one of the most instantly recognisable Hoyas, loved for its flat, fishtail-shaped leaves with dramatic dark veining and its elegant, cascading growth habit. Native to the Himalayan foothills and parts of Southeast Asia, it grows as an epiphyte in cool, humid forests, setting it apart slightly from many warmer-growing Hoyas.
This species is prized for both foliage and flowers and is often considered one of the most ornamental Hoyas available.
Hoya polyneura produces long, flat leaves shaped like a fish tail, with a central midrib and bold, symmetrical veins radiating outward. The leaves are thinner and flatter than those of many Hoyas, with a smooth, matte to lightly satin surface. Foliage colour is typically soft to mid green, with darker green veins creating a striking graphic pattern.
The plant has a naturally trailing growth habit, producing graceful, pendulous stems that make it ideal for hanging baskets or elevated shelves. It does not climb aggressively and generally looks best when allowed to cascade freely.
When mature and well cared for, Hoya polyneura produces rounded clusters of small, star-shaped flowers in pale cream to soft yellow tones, often with a pink or peach centre. The blooms are delicately fragrant and appear on persistent spurs that rebloom repeatedly if left intact.
Bright, indirect light is essential for compact growth and flowering. An east-facing window is ideal, or a bright spot set back from a south- or west-facing window.
Direct sunlight should be avoided, as the flatter leaves scorch more easily than thicker Hoya foliage. In low light, growth becomes slow and stretched, and flowering is unlikely.
Hoya polyneura prefers a more even moisture level than many thick-leaved Hoyas, but it must still never sit in waterlogged soil. Allow the top portion of the growing medium to dry slightly between waterings, then water thoroughly.
During spring and summer, watering will be more regular as the plant actively grows. In autumn and winter, reduce watering but do not allow the plant to dry out completely for long periods, as its thinner leaves are less drought-tolerant.
Drooping or limp leaves often indicate thirst, while yellowing leaves or soft stems point to overwatering.
This species prefers slightly cooler, stable conditions than many Hoyas. Ideal temperatures range from 16–25°C. It tolerates cooler nights better than most Hoyas but should still be protected from cold draughts and frost. Temperatures below 10–12°C can cause damage.
Humidity is important. Hoya polyneura thrives in moderate to high humidity, ideally above 50–60%. Low humidity can cause leaf edges to brown and may reduce flowering. Good airflow is essential, particularly in higher humidity.
A light, free-draining, airy growing medium is essential. A mix of fine orchid bark, perlite or pumice, and a small amount of peat-free compost or coco coir works well. The roots appreciate oxygen and should never sit in compacted compost.
Choose a pot that fits the root ball closely. This species prefers to be slightly root-bound and often flowers more readily when not overpotted. Hanging pots suit its natural growth habit particularly well.
Feed lightly during the growing season. From spring through late summer, apply a balanced houseplant fertiliser at half strength every four to six weeks. Overfeeding can cause soft, weak growth and reduced flowering.
Do not feed during autumn and winter when growth slows.
Minimal pruning is required. Trim only to remove damaged or excessively long stems during the growing season. Never remove old flower spurs, as blooms form from the same points year after year.
Because of its neat trailing habit, Hoya polyneura usually maintains an attractive shape without intervention.
Hoya polyneura is known to be a reliable bloomer once settled. Stability is key. Avoid moving the plant when buds are forming, as changes in light or temperature can cause bud drop.
Bright indirect light, consistent watering, cooler nights and moderate humidity all contribute to regular flowering. It often blooms more readily than many thick-leaved Hoyas.
Propagation is straightforward using stem cuttings with at least two nodes. Cuttings root readily in water or in a well-draining propagation mix. Warmth, humidity and bright indirect light encourage rooting, usually within a few weeks.
Hoya polyneura is a graceful, highly decorative Hoya that rewards consistent moisture, bright indirect light and moderate humidity. Slightly less drought-tolerant than many Hoyas, it benefits from attentive but gentle care. When grown well, it becomes a stunning trailing plant with unique foliage and charming, fragrant flowers.
