Due to the sensitive and breakable nature of our products, it's understandable that damages may occur despite our meticulous packaging methods. If you find that your plant or pot has arrived in a less than satisfactory condition, please reach out to us at hello@plantsforallseasons.co.uk within a month of your delivery date. When contacting us, please provide your order reference, alongside a photo clearly showing the damaged item and its packaging, including the delivery label. Philodendron hederaceum ‘Brasil’, more commonly known as the Philodendron Brasil, is a vibrant and easy-going tropical vine belonging to the Araceae family. Native to the rainforests of Central and South America, this striking cultivar of the classic Heartleaf Philodendron is adored for its bold variegation and low-maintenance care needs.
Each heart-shaped leaf showcases a beautiful lime-green and golden-yellow streak running through its deep green background, creating the impression of brushstrokes or painted stripes — reminiscent of the Brazilian flag, hence the name ‘Brasil’. The plant’s trailing or climbing habit makes it a versatile choice for hanging baskets, high shelves, or moss poles, adding instant tropical character and colour to any indoor setting.
Fast-growing, forgiving, and endlessly decorative, Philodendron ‘Brasil’ is perfect for both beginner plant parents and collectors of variegated tropical foliage.
Thrives in bright, indirect light, which helps maintain its vivid variegation. It will tolerate moderate light but may lose colour contrast in very low-light conditions. Avoid harsh direct sunlight, which can scorch the leaves.
Water when the top 2–3 cm of soil feels dry. Keep the soil lightly moist in spring and summer but allow it to dry slightly between waterings. Reduce watering in winter. Always ensure good drainage to prevent root rot.
Temperature: Prefers 18–28°C. Protect from cold draughts and temperatures below 15°C.
Humidity: Tolerates average household humidity but thrives in slightly higher levels (50–70%). Mist occasionally to encourage lush growth.
Use a chunky, free-draining aroid mix — peat-free compost blended with orchid bark, perlite, and coco coir. This allows airflow around the roots while retaining gentle moisture. Repot every 1–2 years in spring to refresh the soil.
Feed every 4–6 weeks in spring and summer with a balanced liquid fertiliser to promote vibrant foliage and steady growth. Stop feeding during winter dormancy.
Trim long vines to encourage bushier growth and remove any yellow or faded leaves. Propagate cuttings easily in water or soil to expand your collection or share with friends.
A fast-growing trailing or climbing vine, reaching 1–2 metres indoors. Provide a moss pole or trellis for larger leaves and denser growth, or let it trail freely for a cascading effect.
Loss of variegation: Insufficient light.
Yellowing leaves: Overwatering or poor drainage.
Brown tips: Low humidity or inconsistent watering.
Pests: Occasionally thrips, spider mites, or mealybugs.
Philodendron ‘Brasil’ is a sport of Philodendron hederaceum, discovered for its spontaneous variegation that gives each leaf a unique colour pattern. Known for its resilience and versatility, it’s a perfect plant for any indoor environment. Like other Philodendrons, it also helps purify the air, filtering out toxins and improving indoor air quality.
