Due to the sensitive and breakable nature of our products, it's understandable that damages may occur despite our meticulous packaging methods. If you find that your plant or pot has arrived in a less than satisfactory condition, please reach out to us at hello@plantsforallseasons.co.uk within a month of your delivery date. When contacting us, please provide your order reference, alongside a photo clearly showing the damaged item and its packaging, including the delivery label. We are committed to resolving such issues by offering a refund or a replacement, depending on the availability of the item in question.
We are unable to accept returns that are not related to damage because plants are inherently perishable and delicate. Alocasia baginda ‘Silver Dragon’ is a rare and captivating tropical houseplant celebrated for its metallic, dragon-scale-like leaves and compact, sculptural form. A member of the Araceae family and native to the rainforests of Borneo, this extraordinary variety of Alocasia baginda is revered among collectors for its unique silvery sheen and deep, embossed veining.
Each heart-shaped leaf is thick, leathery, and textured, resembling polished silver with dark green veins that create a dramatic, almost mythical contrast — as if carved from metal. The plant’s compact growth habit and intricate detail make it an exceptional focal point, adding an element of fantasy and refinement to tropical plant collections.
Mysterious yet elegant, Alocasia ‘Silver Dragon’ is a living work of art — combining the toughness of a dragon with the sophistication of a jewel.
Thrives in bright, indirect light. Avoid direct sunlight, which can scorch its delicate leaves, but provide enough brightness to maintain its metallic lustre. It can tolerate moderate light but prefers a well-lit, filtered spot — east- or north-facing windows are ideal.
Keep the soil lightly moist but not soggy. Water when the top 2–3 cm of soil feels dry, allowing excess to drain completely. Silver Dragon dislikes sitting in water but is equally sensitive to drying out completely. During the growing season (spring and summer), water more frequently; reduce slightly in winter.
Temperature: Prefers warmth between 18–28 °C and dislikes cold drafts or temperatures below 15 °C. Avoid sudden fluctuations.
Humidity: High humidity (60–80%) is essential for healthy growth. Mist regularly, use a humidifier, or place the plant on a pebble tray to maintain a tropical environment.
Use a well-draining, moisture-retentive aroid mix — ideally a combination of peat-free compost, perlite, orchid bark, and coco coir. This allows airflow while retaining steady moisture. Repot every 1–2 years in spring to refresh the mix and encourage new root and leaf development.
Feed every 4–6 weeks during spring and summer with a diluted, balanced liquid fertiliser. Stop feeding in autumn and winter when growth slows. Avoid over-fertilising, as it can burn the delicate roots and dull the silver sheen of the leaves.
Remove yellow or damaged leaves near the base to maintain shape and promote healthy new growth. Wipe leaves gently with a soft, damp cloth to remove dust and highlight their metallic surface. Rotate the plant occasionally to ensure even light exposure.
A compact grower, Alocasia ‘Silver Dragon’ typically reaches 30–40 cm in height and width. It produces new leaves regularly under the right conditions, each more striking than the last. During cooler months, it may enter a brief dormancy — reduce watering and wait for new growth to emerge in spring.
Yellow leaves: Overwatering or poor drainage.
Brown edges: Low humidity or inconsistent watering.
Drooping leaves: Cold stress or under-watering.
Pests: Occasionally susceptible to spider mites or thrips — maintain humidity and treat with neem oil if needed.
Alocasia baginda species are native to the tropical rainforests of Borneo, where they thrive in warm, shaded, and humid environments. The ‘Silver Dragon’ cultivar was bred for its distinctive silvery foliage and pronounced venation — a highly ornamental variation that has made it a collector’s favourite worldwide.
Symbolically, Alocasias represent strength, protection, and transformation — fitting for a plant that evokes the mythical scales of a dragon. Though not a natural air purifier like some tropicals, its presence brings beauty, serenity, and intrigue to interiors.
