Due to the sensitive and breakable nature of our products, it's understandable that damages may occur despite our meticulous packaging methods. If you find that your plant or pot has arrived in a less than satisfactory condition, please reach out to us at hello@plantsforallseasons.co.uk within a month of your delivery date. When contacting us, please provide your order reference, alongside a photo clearly showing the damaged item and its packaging, including the delivery label. We are committed to resolving such issues by offering a refund or a replacement, depending on the availability of the item in question.
We are unable to accept returns that are not related to damage because plants are inherently perishable and delicate. It's also worth noting that the plant you receive may slightly differ from the images displayed on our website. This variation is natural, given that each plant is unique and subject to seasonal growth changes.
At Plants for all Seasons, we recognise the critical role our courier partners play in ensuring the safe and secure delivery of your plants. Alocasia ‘Black Magic’ is a dramatic and mesmerising aroid, celebrated for its near-black foliage and enchanting, almost otherworldly presence. A cultivar of Alocasia cucullata and part of the Araceae family, this plant is instantly recognisable for its velvety, dark purple-to-black leaves that appear to glow with deep, moody undertones.
Each heart-shaped leaf has a soft, satin finish and subtle, shadowy veining that adds texture without distracting from its rich, monochromatic colour. Young leaves emerge in shades of burgundy or deep plum before maturing into their signature inky black. When grown in bright, indirect light, the foliage becomes even darker and more intense — a true gothic masterpiece in plant form.
Compact yet impactful, Alocasia ‘Black Magic’ offers a unique blend of elegance and drama, making it a favourite among collectors who appreciate plants with bold personality and striking colour. Its mysterious aesthetic makes it particularly eye-catching in modern interiors, minimalist spaces, and curated dark-themed plant collections.
Prefers bright, indirect light to maintain its deepest, darkest colouring. Can tolerate medium light but may display more greenish undertones. Avoid direct sunlight, which can scorch or dull the velvety surface.
Keep the soil lightly and consistently moist, allowing the top 2–3 cm to dry between waterings. Avoid waterlogging, as Alocasias are prone to root rot. Reduce watering during colder months.
Temperature: Thrives at 18–26 °C. Do not expose to temperatures below 15 °C.
Humidity: High humidity (60–80%) is ideal for maintaining lush, healthy foliage. A humidifier or grouping plants together will help create the moisture-rich environment it prefers.
Use a rich, well-draining aroid mix — a combination of houseplant compost, perlite, orchid bark, and coco coir. Good aeration prevents soggy roots. Repot every 1–2 years in spring, only upsizing by a small margin.
Feed every 2–3 weeks during spring and summer with a balanced liquid fertiliser. Reduce feeding during winter dormancy.
Remove any yellowing or tired leaves at the base to keep the plant tidy and encourage new growth. Wipe leaves gently with a damp cloth to enhance their velvety sheen — but avoid heavy pressure, as the surface is delicate.
A moderate grower that typically reaches 40–60 cm in height. Mature plants develop fuller, more dramatic leaf shapes and stronger dark pigmentation. Growth slows during winter or in suboptimal light.
Yellowing leaves: Overwatering or poor drainage.
Crispy edges: Low humidity or underwatering.
Leaf fade (turning green): Insufficient light.
Pests: Watch for spider mites and thrips, which favour tender Alocasia foliage.
Alocasia ‘Black Magic’ is renowned for its rich, moody tones and velvety finish, offering a dramatic contrast to greener foliage in plant arrangements. Its almost surreal colouring has made it a favourite among rare plant collectors and interior stylists looking to add depth and atmosphere.
This plant brings strong visual impact without overwhelming a space, making it ideal for modern homes, darker décor palettes, and those curating “gothic jungle” aesthetics. It pairs beautifully with silver, variegated, or lime-green plants for an eye-catching contrast.
Light: Bright, indirect; medium tolerated

Pair Alocasia ‘Black Magic’ with matte black, deep burgundy, or metallic pots to enhance its rich colouring. Display it where soft, indirect light can catch the velvety surface — such as a side table, plant pedestal, or moody corner — to highlight its dramatic silhouette and deep tones.
