Due to the sensitive and breakable nature of our products, it's understandable that damages may occur despite our meticulous packaging methods. If you find that your plant or pot has arrived in a less than satisfactory condition, please reach out to us at hello@plantsforallseasons.co.uk within a month of your delivery date. When contacting us, please provide your order reference, alongside a photo clearly showing the damaged item and its packaging, including the delivery label. We are committed to resolving such issues by offering a refund or a replacement, depending on the availability of the item in question.
We are unable to accept returns that are not related to damage because plants are inherently perishable and delicate. Caladium ‘White Christmas’ is one of the most elegant and dramatic caladium cultivars, admired for its bold, high-contrast foliage. A member of the Araceae family, caladiums are native to South America, particularly Brazil, where they thrive in the shaded understory of tropical forests.
This cultivar is instantly recognisable for its large, heart-shaped leaves with a strikingly pure white base, intricately veined in deep green. The fine veining spreads like a network across each leaf, creating a delicate yet dramatic appearance. Unlike many caladiums that mix multiple colours, ‘White Christmas’ is purely monochromatic, making it both timeless and versatile.
Mature plants typically reach 40–60 cm tall, forming a clump of luminous foliage from tubers. Indoors, it brings brightness and contrast to shaded rooms, while outdoors it excels in containers, shaded patios, or tropical-style garden borders. Its sophisticated palette makes it especially popular for pairing with darker-leaved plants in decorative displays.
Thrives in bright, indirect light indoors. Outdoors, prefers dappled or full shade. Avoid direct midday sun, which can burn the delicate white leaves.
Keep soil evenly moist during the active growing season (spring to early autumn). Water thoroughly when the surface begins to dry, but ensure good drainage. In dormancy, when the leaves die back, reduce watering drastically, keeping tubers just barely moist.
Temperature: Ideal range is 18–26°C. Keep away from draughts and never expose to temperatures below 15°C.
Humidity: High humidity is essential. Mist leaves regularly, group with other tropicals, or use a humidifier to prevent browning edges.
Use a rich, peat-free, well-draining mix with perlite or orchid bark for aeration. Plant tubers shallowly (just under the soil surface) in spring. Repot annually to refresh the soil at the start of the growing season.
Apply a balanced liquid fertiliser every 2–3 weeks in spring and summer. Do not feed during dormancy.
Growth: Produces large, heart-shaped white leaves with striking green veins.
Dormancy: In late autumn, leaves naturally die back. Store tubers in their pot with minimal watering, or lift and store in a cool, dry place until spring.
Remove faded leaves as they die back, but allow them to wither naturally so nutrients return to the tuber.
Crisp leaf edges: Often caused by low humidity.
Yellowing leaves: Typically linked to overwatering or poor drainage.
Pests: May occasionally attract thrips, spider mites, or aphids. Inspect leaves regularly.
Caladiums have been prized since the 18th century for their ornamental foliage, and ‘White Christmas’ is one of the most classic cultivars. Its clean white leaves and sharp green veining give it a sophisticated, minimalist look, ideal for modern interiors and shaded garden displays alike.
