Due to the sensitive and breakable nature of our products, it's understandable that damages may occur despite our meticulous packaging methods. When contacting us, please provide your order reference, alongside a photo clearly showing the damaged item and its packaging, including the delivery label. Philodendron hederaceum ‘Lemon Micans’ is a rare and eye-catching trailing aroid belonging to the Araceae family. Native to the tropical rainforests of Central and South America, this cultivar is a vibrant twist on the beloved Philodendron micans, which is already celebrated for its velvety leaves and trailing habit.
The ‘Lemon Micans’ variety is distinguished by its unusual golden-lime foliage. Young leaves emerge in a vivid lemon-green shade, with a soft, velvety texture that catches the light. As they mature, leaves deepen slightly into chartreuse or olive tones, creating a cascade of glowing, jewel-like foliage. The heart-shaped leaves, combined with their velvety shimmer, give the plant an elegant yet playful appearance.
This trailing philodendron is perfect for hanging baskets, tall shelves, or training along a moss pole, where its vines can grow several metres over time. Its luminous foliage adds a splash of colour to plant collections and contrasts beautifully with darker green or burgundy-leaved plants.
Thrives in bright, indirect light, which helps maintain its luminous colour. Tolerates medium light but leaves may darken. Avoid direct sun, which can scorch delicate foliage.
Water when the top 2–3 cm of soil feels dry. Keep soil lightly moist but never soggy. Overwatering may lead to root rot, while prolonged drought may cause leaves to curl or crisp. Reduce watering in winter.
Temperature: Prefers 18–26°C. Protect from draughts and avoid temperatures below 15°C.
Humidity: Moderate to high humidity (50%+) encourages lush growth. Mist occasionally, group with other plants, or use a humidifier for best results.
Use a well-draining, chunky aroid mix – peat-free compost blended with perlite, orchid bark, and coco coir. Repot every 1–2 years in spring to refresh the mix and give roots space to spread.
Feed every 4 weeks in spring and summer with a balanced liquid fertiliser. Stop feeding during autumn and winter.
Prune long vines to control shape and encourage bushier growth. The plant can be trained to climb a moss pole, producing larger leaves, or left to trail elegantly. Stem cuttings root easily in water, sphagnum moss, or soil.
A moderately fast grower indoors, capable of trailing or climbing several metres with support. Its velvety, lemon-toned leaves remain decorative year-round.
Yellowing leaves: Commonly due to overwatering.
Dull or darkened leaves: Caused by insufficient light.
Pests: May occasionally attract spider mites, mealybugs, or thrips. Inspect regularly.
The Philodendron micans group is beloved for its soft-textured leaves and trailing habit. The ‘Lemon Micans’ cultivar adds a fresh, golden twist to this classic plant, offering a bright and modern alternative for collectors. Like many philodendrons, it also helps filter indoor air, contributing to a healthier home environment.
