Due to the sensitive and breakable nature of our products, it's understandable that damages may occur despite our meticulous packaging methods. If you find that your plant or pot has arrived in a less than satisfactory condition, please reach out to us at hello@plantsforallseasons.co.uk within a month of your delivery date. When contacting us, please provide your order reference, alongside a photo clearly showing the damaged item and its packaging, including the delivery label. We are committed to resolving such issues by offering a refund or a replacement, depending on the availability of the item in question.
We are unable to accept returns that are not related to damage because plants are inherently perishable and delicate. It's also worth noting that the plant you receive may slightly differ from the images displayed on our website. This variation is natural, given that each plant is unique and subject to seasonal growth changes.

Platycerium bifurcatum, commonly known as the Staghorn Fern or Elkhorn Fern, is a stunning tropical epiphytic fern celebrated for its sculptural, antler-like fronds and natural ability to grow on trees, bark, or mounted displays. A member of the Polypodiaceae family and native to Australia, New Guinea, and Southeast Asia, this fern brings a touch of rainforest grandeur to any interior or shaded garden setting.
Unlike traditional ferns, Platycerium bifurcatum produces two distinct types of fronds. The basal (shield) fronds are rounded and flat, growing close to the mounting surface to protect the roots and collect organic material, while the upright fertile fronds branch elegantly like deer or elk antlers, creating its signature silhouette. When mature, these can span up to 1 metre, cascading beautifully in hanging baskets or wall-mounted displays.
Architectural, timeless, and full of tropical charm, Platycerium bifurcatum is a living piece of natural art — ideal for plant enthusiasts and interior designers alike.
Thrives in bright, indirect light. It can tolerate a few hours of gentle morning or late afternoon sun but should be protected from harsh midday rays, which can scorch the fronds. If kept indoors, position near a bright east-facing window or in filtered light.
Keep the growing medium lightly moist but never soggy. Water by soaking or misting rather than direct overhead watering. When mounted, submerge the mount in lukewarm water for 10–15 minutes, allowing it to drain thoroughly before rehanging. Water more frequently in warm months and reduce in winter, allowing the mount to dry slightly between waterings.
Temperature: Prefers warmth between 18–28 °C. Protect from cold drafts and avoid temperatures below 10 °C.
Humidity: High humidity (60–80%) is essential for lush growth. Mist regularly, use a humidifier, or position near other tropical plants to maintain consistent moisture levels. Bathrooms and kitchens with bright, filtered light are ideal locations.
As an epiphytic fern, Platycerium bifurcatum grows best mounted on wood, tree fern plaques, or cork bark with sphagnum moss. It can also be placed in a hanging basket lined with moss and bark chips. Avoid using traditional potting soil, which retains too much moisture. Repot or resecure every 2–3 years as it grows larger.
Feed monthly during spring and summer with a diluted, balanced liquid fertiliser (at half strength). Apply via misting or soak the entire mount in fertiliser solution. Suspend feeding during autumn and winter when growth slows.
Do not remove the brown shield fronds at the base — these are essential for the plant’s health, helping it absorb nutrients and anchor itself. Trim only dead or damaged fertile fronds to maintain a tidy appearance. Wipe gently with a damp cloth or soft brush to remove dust, and avoid using leaf shine.
A moderately fast grower under ideal conditions, Platycerium bifurcatum can reach up to 90 cm to 1.2 metres across. Over time, it forms multiple crowns, creating a dramatic, sculptural display that grows more impressive each year. When mounted, it develops into a self-sustaining, wall-mounted living sculpture.
Brown patches: Overwatering or poor air circulation.
Shrivelled fronds: Underwatering or low humidity.
Pale fronds: Too much direct sunlight or nutrient deficiency.
Pests: Occasionally affected by scale or mealybugs — treat with neem oil and maintain good airflow.
Native to the warm, humid forests of Australia and Southeast Asia, Platycerium bifurcatum naturally grows high on trees, absorbing moisture and nutrients from rainwater and decomposing organic matter. Its name comes from the Greek platy (flat) and ceras (horn), referring to its flat, antler-shaped fronds.
This fern is a favourite among plant stylists for its ability to transform vertical spaces into living art. Non-toxic to humans and pets, it’s a safe and striking choice for households. Its large, lush fronds also contribute to improved indoor air quality by increasing humidity and filtering the air.
Light: Bright, indirect light; gentle morning or evening sun
Water: Soak or mist regularly; keep moss moist but not soggy
Temperature: 18–28 °C; avoid below 10 °C
Humidity: High (60–80%)
Soil/Mount: Sphagnum moss, bark, or fern fibre – mounted or hanging
Feed: Monthly in spring/summer
Growth: Up to 1 m; rounded shield fronds with upright antler-like fertile fronds
⚠️ Toxicity note: Non-toxic to humans and pets.
Mount Platycerium bifurcatum on a wooden board, cork slab, or tree fern plaque to highlight its natural form. Hang it on a bright wall, in a bathroom, or from the ceiling for an instant sculptural statement. Pair with other epiphytic species like Rhipsalis baccifera ‘Oasis’ or Humata tyermanii for a lush, rainforest-inspired display. In minimalist interiors, its organic silhouette adds drama and movement — a true conversation piece that blurs the line between plant and art.
