Due to the sensitive and breakable nature of our products, it's understandable that damages may occur despite our meticulous packaging methods. If you find that your plant or pot has arrived in a less than satisfactory condition, please reach out to us at hello@plantsforallseasons.co.uk within a month of your delivery date. When contacting us, please provide your order reference, alongside a photo clearly showing the damaged item and its packaging, including the delivery label. We are committed to resolving such issues by offering a refund or a replacement, depending on the availability of the item in question.
We are unable to accept returns that are not related to damage because plants are inherently perishable and delicate. It's also worth noting that the plant you receive may slightly differ from the images displayed on our website. Scindapsus ‘Kalimantan’ is a rare and highly sought-after cultivar of the Scindapsus pictus group, native to the rainforests of Borneo (Kalimantan). Belonging to the Araceae family, these climbing aroids are admired for their velvety, patterned leaves and steady vining growth.
The ‘Kalimantan’ variety is distinguished by its broad, heart-shaped foliage with a velvety texture and unique silvery-green patterning. Each leaf is splashed and marbled with shimmering silver markings, contrasting beautifully against the darker green background. Under certain lighting, the leaves almost glisten with a metallic sheen, giving the plant an exotic, luxurious appearance.
In its natural habitat, Scindapsus climbs trees in the humid forest understory using aerial roots. Indoors, ‘Kalimantan’ can be grown as a trailing plant in hanging baskets or encouraged to climb a moss pole or trellis, which will often result in larger, more mature leaves over time. Its rarity and unique colouring make it a prized addition to any rare plant collection.
Thrives in bright, indirect light. It tolerates medium light, but low light may dull the variegation and slow growth. Avoid direct sunlight, which can scorch the foliage.
Water when the top 3–4 cm of soil feels dry. In spring and summer, this is usually once a week, while in winter it may only need watering every 10–14 days. Overwatering can lead to root rot, so always ensure excess water can drain freely.
Temperature: Prefers warm conditions of 18–26°C. Protect from draughts and avoid prolonged exposure below 15°C.
Humidity: Benefits from moderate to high humidity (60%+). Mist occasionally, place near a humidifier, or group with other tropical plants to maintain lush foliage.
Use a chunky, free-draining aroid mix – a blend of peat-free compost, orchid bark, perlite, and coco coir works well. Repot every 1–2 years in spring to refresh the mix and support growth.
Apply a balanced liquid houseplant fertiliser every 4 weeks in spring and summer. Reduce feeding in autumn and stop in winter.
Prune long vines to encourage bushier growth and maintain shape. Stems can be easily propagated from cuttings in water, moss, or directly in soil. Training onto a moss pole encourages larger leaves and a more mature appearance.
With proper care, Scindapsus ‘Kalimantan’ develops into a steady-growing vine, trailing or climbing several metres over time. Leaves may increase in size and pattern complexity as the plant matures.
Yellowing leaves: Often a sign of overwatering.
Dull foliage: Linked to insufficient light.
Pests: May occasionally attract mealybugs, thrips, or spider mites. Regular inspections and wiping leaves help prevent infestations.
Scindapsus species are celebrated not only for their ornamental value but also for their adaptability to indoor conditions. The ‘Kalimantan’ form, originating from Borneo, is particularly prized for its shimmering, velvety foliage. Like other Scindapsus, it also helps filter indoor air, making it both decorative and beneficial.
