Due to the sensitive and breakable nature of our products, it's understandable that damages may occur despite our meticulous packaging methods. If you find that your plant or pot has arrived in a less than satisfactory condition, please reach out to us at hello@plantsforallseasons.co.uk within a month of your delivery date. When contacting us, please provide your order reference, alongside a photo clearly showing the damaged item and its packaging, including the delivery label. We are committed to resolving such issues by offering a refund or a replacement, depending on the availability of the item in question.
We are unable to accept returns that are not related to damage because plants are inherently perishable and delicate. It's also worth noting that the plant you receive may slightly differ from the images displayed on our website. This variation is natural, given that each plant is unique and subject to seasonal growth changes.

Homalomena ‘Red Sumatra’ is a rare and dramatic foliage plant from the Araceae family, native to the rainforests of Southeast Asia. Homalomenas are closely related to philodendrons and anthuriums, but they are distinguished by their lush, heart-shaped foliage and compact, clumping growth habit.
The ‘Red Sumatra’ variety is especially prized for its striking leaf colour. Mature leaves are broad, glossy, and deep burgundy-red to near-black, with a leathery texture that makes them stand out in any tropical collection. Newer leaves may emerge in brighter red tones before darkening as they mature. The sturdy red petioles further enhance the plant’s rich, bold colouring.
Typically reaching 40–60 cm in height indoors, Homalomena ‘Red Sumatra’ forms a dense clump of upright leaves, creating a refined and architectural display. Its combination of rarity, colour, and manageable size makes it popular with aroid enthusiasts and interior designers.
Thrives in bright, indirect light. Too much shade may reduce colour vibrancy, while harsh direct sunlight can scorch the leaves.
Water when the top 3–4 cm of soil feels dry. Keep soil evenly moist but never soggy, as this can cause root rot. Reduce watering in cooler months when growth slows.
Temperature: Prefers warmth, 18–28°C. Protect from draughts and avoid prolonged cold below 15°C.
Humidity: Moderate to high (50–70%) is ideal. Mist occasionally, use pebble trays, or place near a humidifier to maintain healthy foliage.
Use a chunky, free-draining aroid mix – peat-free compost enriched with orchid bark, perlite, and coco coir is ideal. Repot every 1–2 years in spring to refresh the mix and provide space for root development.
Apply a balanced liquid fertiliser every 4 weeks during spring and summer. Stop feeding in autumn and winter.
Remove any yellowing or damaged leaves at the base. Wipe leaves gently with a damp cloth to enhance their glossy finish and encourage photosynthesis.
A moderate grower, forming dense clumps of foliage up to 60 cm tall. Its striking colour intensifies with maturity and proper light.
Leaf yellowing: Overwatering or poor drainage.
Faded colours: Insufficient light.
Brown tips: Low humidity or inconsistent watering.
Pests: Occasionally spider mites, mealybugs, or aphids.
Homalomenas have been used ornamentally in Asia for generations, admired for their resilience and striking leaves. ‘Red Sumatra’ is among the most decorative cultivars, highly sought after for its deep red to black foliage. Its bold colours provide an instant tropical, exotic feel to interiors while remaining compact and easy to care for compared to larger aroids.
