"Nepenthes Robcantleyi", commonly known as Nepenthes Rob, is a striking tropical pitcher plant known for its large, robust, and darkly colored pitchers. Here's a detailed guide on its description and care:

Description:

  1. Pitchers: The most prominent feature, these are deep black with a glossy appearance. The peristome (rim of the pitcher) is often striped with lighter colours, contrasting with the dark body.
  2. Leaves and Vine: The leaves are long and slender, leading to the pitchers. The vine can grow quite long, supporting numerous pitchers.
  3. Size and Growth: It's a fast-growing species, capable of reaching significant sizes, with pitchers over 30 cm long in optimal conditions.
  4. Flowers: Like other Nepenthes, it produces separate male and female flowers on different plants (dioecious). The flowers are small and less showy compared to the pitchers.

Care Guide:

  1. Light: Requires bright, indirect light. Direct sunlight can scorch the leaves and pitchers, but insufficient light will reduce pitcher production.
  2. Temperature: Thrives in warm, humid conditions. Daytime temperatures should be around 25-30°C, with a slight drop at night.
  3. Humidity: High humidity levels, preferably above 70%, are essential for healthy growth and pitcher formation.
  4. Watering: Use rainwater, distilled water, or reverse osmosis water. Keep the soil moist but not waterlogged. Over-watering can lead to root rot.
  5. Soil: A well-draining mix, typically a blend of sphagnum moss and perlite, is ideal. Avoid regular potting soil as it can be too nutrient-rich.
  6. Feeding: These plants are carnivorous and can be fed small insects. However, feeding is not necessary if they're catching enough prey naturally.
  7. Repotting: Repot every 2-3 years to refresh the soil. Be gentle as the roots are delicate.
  8. Pruning: Not generally necessary, but dead or dying pitchers can be removed to encourage new growth.

Common Issues:

  • Pitcher Loss: Often due to low humidity or insufficient water.
  • Leaf Burn: Caused by too much direct sunlight.
  • Root Rot: Resulting from over-watering or poor drainage.

Final Tips:

  • Avoid fertilizing as traditional plant fertilizers can harm Nepenthes.
  • Monitor for pests like aphids and treat them promptly.

Remember, each plant can have its own quirks, so observe your Nepenthes Rob and adjust care as needed. Enjoy the unique beauty and intriguing functionality of this exceptional carnivorous plant!

Plastic Nursery Pots: All our plants are supplied in practical plastic nursery pots. If you prefer a more decorative option, we offer a range of stylish pots available for purchase separately.

Non-Consumable: Please note that our plants are intended for ornamental purposes only unless specifically stated as edible. Ensure you check product descriptions carefully if you are looking for edible varieties.

Variable Heights: The height of our plants can vary by approximately +/- 10%. This natural fluctuation ensures you receive a unique and healthy specimen.

Plant Pot Sizes: Pot sizes may vary by approximately +/- 1cm. To ensure a proper fit, we recommend selecting a decorative pot that is 1-2cm larger than the stated plant pot size. For instance, if you purchase a plant in a 17cm pot, a 18 - 19cm decorative pot would be ideal.

Quarantining: All our houseplants are regularly sprayed with a preventative systemic bug treatment. We do our best to ensure a bug free growing environment however sometimes these can unfortunately be missed, as such we always recommend quarantining plants when they first enter your home and checking them upon arrival for bugs.
