Due to the sensitive and breakable nature of our products, it's understandable that damages may occur despite our meticulous packaging methods. If you find that your plant or pot has arrived in a less than satisfactory condition, please reach out to us at hello@plantsforallseasons.co.uk within a month of your delivery date. When contacting us, please provide your order reference, alongside a photo clearly showing the damaged item and its packaging, including the delivery label. We are committed to resolving such issues by offering a refund or a replacement, depending on the availability of the item in question.
We are unable to accept returns that are not related to damage because plants are inherently perishable and delicate. It's also worth noting that the plant you receive may slightly differ from the images displayed on our website. This variation is natural, given that each plant is unique and subject to seasonal growth changes.

Alocasia portei is a magnificent, architectural aroid admired for its large, deeply cut leaves and imposing tropical presence. Native to the Philippines and part of the Araceae family, this species is famous for its dramatic, pinnate leaf structure — each leaf divided into bold, finger-like lobes that create a striking, sculptural silhouette.
The foliage is a rich, vibrant green with a glossy surface and prominent veining that accentuates the dramatic texture. As the plant matures, the leaves become increasingly elaborate, forming wide, airy fans that give the plant a distinctly exotic, jungle-like appearance. Thick, sturdy petioles support the large leaves, often displaying subtle speckling or striping.
Alocasia portei brings an unmistakable statement to any interior. Its bold form and commanding size make it a favourite among collectors and plant stylists who appreciate large, sculptural foliage plants with a wild, tropical character.
Thrives in bright, indirect light. Medium light is tolerated, but leaves may be smaller and less dramatically lobed. Avoid harsh direct sun, which can scorch the leaf edges and dull the natural sheen.
Keep the soil lightly and consistently moist, allowing the top 2–4 cm to dry between waterings. Alocasia portei dislikes both waterlogging and extended dryness. Water less frequently during winter dormancy.
Temperature: Ideal range is 18–28 °C. Growth slows below 15 °C; avoid cold draughts.
Humidity: High humidity (60–80%) supports larger leaves and healthier growth. Use a humidifier or place near other humidity-loving plants for best results.
Use a rich, well-draining aroid mix — houseplant compost combined with perlite, orchid bark, and coco coir. This species appreciates excellent aeration around the roots. Repot every 1–2 years in spring, choosing a slightly larger pot to accommodate vigorous growth.
Feed every 2–3 weeks during spring and summer with a balanced liquid fertiliser. Extra nitrogen can help support large foliage development.
Remove any ageing or damaged leaves at the base to maintain a clean shape. Wipe the broad leaf surfaces gently with a damp cloth to maintain their glossy appearance.
A moderate to fast grower under warm, humid, bright conditions. Indoors, mature plants typically reach 60–120 cm in height, with individual leaves growing impressively large and deeply lobed. Growth slows in cooler months.
Crispy edges: Often caused by low humidity or underwatering.
Yellowing leaves: Usually overwatering or compacted soil.
Leggy growth: Insufficient light.
Pests: Watch for spider mites and thrips, particularly on tender new leaves.
Alocasia portei is named after the renowned botanist Odoardo Beccari’s collaborator, Captain Porte, and is celebrated for its wild, dramatic leaf shape. Its deeply lobed foliage sets it apart from more common Alocasias, making it a favourite among rare plant collectors and interior designers who want to create a lush, tropical atmosphere.
The plant’s architectural form adds height, movement, and texture to indoor gardens, making it a perfect focal piece in conservatories, living rooms, or plant displays where sculptural impact is desired.
