Due to the sensitive and breakable nature of our products, it's understandable that damages may occur despite our meticulous packaging methods. If you find that your plant or pot has arrived in a less than satisfactory condition, please reach out to us at hello@plantsforallseasons.co.uk within a month of your delivery date. When contacting us, please provide your order reference, alongside a photo clearly showing the damaged item and its packaging, including the delivery label. We are committed to resolving such issues by offering a refund or a replacement, depending on the availability of the item in question.
We are unable to accept returns that are not related to damage because plants are inherently perishable and delicate. It's also worth noting that the plant you receive may slightly differ from the images displayed on our website. This variation is natural, given that each plant is unique and subject to seasonal growth changes.
At Plants for all Seasons, we recognise the critical role our courier partners play in ensuring the safe and secure delivery of your plants. Begonia ferox is one of the most dramatic and unusual foliage begonias available. Native to limestone regions of China, this species is famed for its heavily textured leaves covered in bold, raised black spines that develop as the plant matures.
It’s a true collector’s plant — architectural, prehistoric-looking and completely unlike standard rex or cane begonias.
Broad, rounded to slightly oval leaves
Rich deep green colouring
Prominent raised black “spines” (bullae) across the surface
Lighter green veining for added contrast
Thick, structured leaf texture
Young leaves emerge smoother and gradually develop the distinctive raised bullae as they mature — making it especially rewarding to grow.
Small, pale pink to soft blush blooms
Typically appear in warm, bright conditions
Secondary to the dramatic foliage
While it can flower, it is grown almost entirely for its unique leaf texture.
Typical indoor height: 30–50 cm
Compact, clump-forming habit
Moderate growth in stable, warm conditions
It remains manageable in size but visually impactful.
Prefers bright, indirect light
Avoid direct sun, which can scorch leaves
Too little light may slow growth
Consistent lighting encourages strong leaf development and texture.
Keep compost lightly moist
Allow the top layer to dry slightly between watering
Never allow to sit in water
Reduce watering in winter
Good drainage is essential — a well-aerated mix works best.
Ideal range: 18–24°C
Avoid cold draughts
Prefers higher humidity (60%+ ideal)
Humidity helps maintain healthy foliage and prevents leaf damage.
Avoid wetting the leaves directly
Ensure good airflow to reduce fungal risk
Feed lightly during spring and summer
✔ Extremely rare and collectible
✔ Unique spiny leaf texture
✔ Compact but bold
✔ A true conversation-starting plant
Begonia ferox is perfect for serious plant collectors looking for something extraordinary. Its prehistoric texture and sculptural form make it one of the most distinctive begonias you can grow indoors.
