Due to the sensitive and breakable nature of our products, it's understandable that damages may occur despite our meticulous packaging methods. If you find that your plant or pot has arrived in a less than satisfactory condition, please reach out to us at hello@plantsforallseasons.co.uk within a month of your delivery date. When contacting us, please provide your order reference, alongside a photo clearly showing the damaged item and its packaging, including the delivery label. We are committed to resolving such issues by offering a refund or a replacement, depending on the availability of the item in question.
We are unable to accept returns that are not related to damage because plants are inherently perishable and delicate. It's also worth noting that the plant you receive may slightly differ from the images displayed on our website. This variation is natural, given that each plant is unique and subject to seasonal growth changes.

Ficus benghalensis ‘Variegated’, commonly known as the Variegated Banyan Fig, is a striking and highly ornamental cultivar admired for its bold marbling, sculptural presence, and tree-like growth habit. Native to India and Southeast Asia and a member of the Moraceae family, this variety transforms the iconic banyan fig into a stunning indoor statement plant with refined variegation.
The leaves are large, leathery, and oval-shaped with gently wavy margins. Each leaf displays a dramatic mix of creamy white, soft yellow, and mid-green marbling, often with splashed, cloud-like patterns around the edges. The variegation varies from leaf to leaf, creating a dynamic, painterly look. New growth often emerges in pale, bright tones before deepening as the leaf matures.
As the plant grows, it develops a strong central trunk with branching limbs, giving it a miniature tree silhouette. The aerial roots characteristic of banyan figs may appear with age, adding further interest. Elegant, tropical, and structurally impressive, Ficus benghalensis ‘Variegated’ is a superb focal plant for modern interiors.
Requires bright, indirect light to maintain strong variegation. A few hours of gentle morning sun are beneficial. Too little light will cause the plant to develop greener leaves and reduce contrast. Avoid harsh midday sun which may bleach or scorch variegated areas.
Water when the top 3–5 cm of soil has dried. Ficus prefers consistent, moderate moisture but dislikes sitting in water. Overwatering can lead to leaf drop, while underwatering may cause crisping. Reduce watering slightly during winter.
Temperature: Thrives in warm conditions between 18–28 °C. Avoid cold draughts and sudden temperature changes.
Humidity: Average household humidity (40–60%) is acceptable, though higher humidity supports larger, lusher foliage.
Use a rich, well-draining indoor plant mix. A blend of quality compost, perlite, and bark chips works well. Repot every 1–2 years or when roots circle the bottom — Ficus appreciates space for its strong root system.
Feed every 4 weeks during spring and summer with a balanced liquid fertiliser. Variegated foliage benefits from steady nutrients to support its reduced chlorophyll production.
Prune as needed to shape the canopy, promote branching, or control height. Wipe leaves regularly with a damp cloth to keep their variegation bright and free from dust. Rotate the plant weekly to ensure even growth.
A moderate grower that can reach 1.2–2 metres indoors with age. Develops a woody trunk and a broad, tree-like canopy. Growth slows in winter or in low light.
Leaf drop: Caused by overwatering, underwatering, or sudden environment changes.
Green reversion: Not enough light.
Brown patches: Low humidity or irregular watering.
Pests: Watch for scale, mealybugs, and spider mites.
Ficus benghalensis is culturally revered in India, where the banyan tree symbolises longevity and strength. The variegated version brings this iconic species into modern interiors with a softer, artistic twist. Its marbled foliage adds colour and texture without overwhelming a room.
Because of its ability to grow into a living indoor tree, it’s perfect for larger spaces, statement corners, or plant styling where height and structure are desired. Despite its exotic appearance, it is resilient once settled and can thrive for decades with proper care.
