Due to the sensitive and breakable nature of our products, it's understandable that damages may occur despite our meticulous packaging methods. If you find that your plant or pot has arrived in a less than satisfactory condition, please reach out to us at hello@plantsforallseasons.co.uk within a month of your delivery date. When contacting us, please provide your order reference, alongside a photo clearly showing the damaged item and its packaging, including the delivery label. We are committed to resolving such issues by offering a refund or a replacement, depending on the availability of the item in question.
We are unable to accept returns that are not related to damage because plants are inherently perishable and delicate. It's also worth noting that the plant you receive may slightly differ from the images displayed on our website. This variation is natural, given that each plant is unique and subject to seasonal growth changes.

Alocasia Mickey Mouse — Xanthosoma ‘Mickey Mouse’
Commonly sold as Alocasia Mickey Mouse, this unusual houseplant actually belongs to the Xanthosoma genus. Its playful name comes from its distinctive foliage, which combines broad, ear-like lobes with irregularly cupped leaf tips and slender, tail-like extensions. These unusual shapes make it a memorable addition to a tropical plant collection.
The green leaves feature splashes, patches and margins of creamy white, creating a different pattern on every leaf. Some leaves develop pronounced folds and pockets, while others have a more open, arrow-shaped appearance. This naturally irregular growth is part of the plant’s character.
Long, upright leaf stalks rise from an underground storage stem, giving the plant an open, spreading shape. With warmth, moisture and suitable light, it can develop into a substantial foliage plant. Allow space around it to appreciate the changing leaf shapes and contrasting colours as new growth unfolds.
Light
Provide bright, indirect light. A bright window with protection from strong midday and afternoon sunshine is ideal.
The pale areas are particularly vulnerable to scorching, so introduce brighter conditions gradually. Avoid trying to increase variegation through direct sun exposure; the pattern naturally varies between leaves.
Watering
Water when the top 2–3cm of compost feels dry. During active growth, aim to keep the root zone lightly and consistently moist without leaving it saturated.
Water thoroughly, allow excess water to drain and empty the decorative outer pot or saucer. Avoid repeatedly letting the entire root ball dry out.
Check the compost before watering rather than following a fixed schedule. A plant growing quickly in warm conditions will use more water than one resting in a cooler room.
Humidity
Provide moderate to high humidity, ideally around 60% or above. A humidifier can help in centrally heated homes.
Maintain gentle airflow around the leaves, especially where plants are grouped closely together. Avoid leaving moisture trapped in the cupped foliage for prolonged periods.
Temperature
Keep your plant in a warm position, ideally around 18–29°C. Protect it from cold draughts, chilly windows and sudden temperature changes.
Avoid prolonged temperatures below 15–16°C, particularly when the compost is wet.
Potting mix
Use a rich, airy potting mix that holds some moisture while draining freely. Peat-free houseplant compost amended with fine orchid bark and perlite is a practical option.
Choose a container with drainage holes. Dense compost and standing water can leave the roots short of oxygen and increase the risk of rot.
Feeding
Feed with a balanced liquid houseplant fertiliser during active spring and summer growth. Follow the product’s recommended dilution and frequency, avoiding excessive feeding.
Reduce or pause fertiliser when leaf production slows, particularly during winter.
Repotting
Repot when roots and offsets have filled the container, or when the growing medium has deteriorated. Choose a pot only slightly larger than the existing root ball and refresh the compost.
Established plants with several growing points can also be divided during repotting.
Winter care
Growth may slow considerably during darker, cooler months, and some plants lose foliage as they enter a resting period. Reduce watering to match this lower demand and stop feeding if growth has paused.
If the leaves die back, check the underground stem. Firm, healthy tissue may produce fresh growth when warmth and brighter light return. Keep a resting plant only lightly moist, avoiding saturated compost.
Common problems
Pale areas becoming tan and papery: Strong sunlight may have scorched the foliage.
Spreading leaf spots: Improve airflow, avoid persistently wet leaves and check for disease.
Soft roots or underground stem: Investigate possible rot and remove affected tissue using clean tools.
Unusual folds or cupped tips: These are characteristic features of ‘Mickey Mouse’; assess changes alongside the plant’s overall health.
Propagation
Propagate by separating rooted offsets or dividing the underground stem. Each division should retain a healthy growing point and, wherever possible, established roots.
Pot divisions into appropriately sized containers and provide warmth, indirect light and carefully controlled moisture while they establish.
Pet and child safety
This plant is harmful if chewed or swallowed, and its sap can irritate skin. Keep it away from children and pets, and wear gloves when pruning or dividing.
