Due to the sensitive and breakable nature of our products, it's understandable that damages may occur despite our meticulous packaging methods. If you find that your plant or pot has arrived in a less than satisfactory condition, please reach out to us at hello@plantsforallseasons.co.uk within a month of your delivery date. When contacting us, please provide your order reference, alongside a photo clearly showing the damaged item and its packaging, including the delivery label. We are committed to resolving such issues by offering a refund or a replacement, depending on the availability of the item in question.
We are unable to accept returns that are not related to damage because plants are inherently perishable and delicate. It's also worth noting that the plant you receive may slightly differ from the images displayed on our website. This variation is natural, given that each plant is unique and subject to seasonal growth changes.
At Plants for all Seasons, we recognise the critical role our courier partners play in ensuring the safe and secure delivery of your plants. Alocasia Nobilis
Alocasia Nobilis is a striking tropical houseplant prized for its sculpted leaves, dramatic edges and contrasting veins. Commonly sold as Alocasia sanderiana ‘Nobilis’, it produces elongated, arrow-shaped foliage with deeply lobed, rippling margins. Silvery-white veins stand out against the dark green leaf surface, creating a bold, intricate pattern.
The leaves have a softly glossy, sometimes metallic appearance, with deep purple undersides adding further colour. Held on upright stalks, the foliage creates an open display that allows each leaf’s outline to stand out. Its angular shape works beautifully alongside softer, rounded foliage or as a feature plant in its own right.
Associated with Alocasia sanderiana, a species native to Mindanao in the Philippines, ‘Nobilis’ brings a distinctive tropical character to indoor collections. It rewards growers who can provide consistent warmth, humid air and careful watering, with its leaf shape becoming increasingly impressive as the plant develops.
Light
Provide bright, indirect light. A position near a bright window with protection from strong midday and afternoon sunshine is ideal.
Avoid deep shade, which can slow growth. If natural light is limited during winter, a suitable grow light can help maintain a more consistent growing environment.
Watering
Water when the top 2–3cm of compost feels dry, checking deeper moisture before adding more. Aim for lightly moist roots during active growth, allowing some drying between waterings.
Water thoroughly and let excess water drain away. Empty the saucer or decorative outer pot so the roots are never left standing in water.
Adjust watering to the conditions rather than following a fixed weekly schedule. Cooler temperatures and slower growth usually mean the compost takes longer to dry.
Humidity
Aim for around 60–80% relative humidity. Consistent humidity is especially helpful while new leaves are developing.
A humidifier or ventilated growing cabinet can help in a dry home. Maintain gentle airflow and keep the plant away from radiators that dry the surrounding air.
Temperature
Maintain temperatures around 20–27°C for active growth. Protect the plant from cold draughts, chilly window glass and sudden temperature changes.
Avoid prolonged temperatures below 15–16°C, particularly when the growing medium is wet.
Potting mix
Use a rich, airy mix that retains some moisture while draining freely. Peat-free houseplant compost amended with fine orchid bark and perlite is a practical option.
Choose a container with drainage holes. Avoid dense, compacted compost, which can remain wet and restrict airflow around the roots.
Feeding
Apply a liquid houseplant fertiliser during active growth, following the product’s dilution and frequency instructions. Feed lightly rather than using extra fertiliser to encourage faster growth.
Reduce or pause feeding when leaf production slows.
Repotting
Check the roots in spring and repot when they have become crowded. Move up one pot size and refresh the growing medium, maintaining a similar planting depth.
Avoid placing a small root system in an oversized container, where unused compost can stay wet for too long.
Routine maintenance
Remove fully dead leaves with clean scissors, cutting near the base without damaging neighbouring growth. Handle emerging leaves gently.
Inspect leaf undersides and stem joints regularly for spider mites, mealybugs and aphids. Isolate affected plants promptly.
Common problems
Yellowing leaves: Check for overwatering, excessive dryness or insufficient light.
Brown leaf edges: Review humidity and watering consistency.
Fine webbing or pale speckling: Inspect carefully for spider mites.
Soft roots or a deteriorating base: Investigate possible rot.
Slow growth in winter: Review light and temperature before increasing water or feed.
Winter care
Growth may slow during darker, cooler months, and some leaves may die back. Reduce watering to match the plant’s lower demand and pause feeding if growth stops.
Check the underground stem if foliage is lost. Firm, healthy tissue may produce new growth when conditions improve; soft or deteriorating tissue needs investigation.
Propagation
Propagate by separating rooted offsets or growing the small corms produced around established plants. Spring and early summer are suitable times.
Keep new plants warm in an airy, lightly moist medium, allowing time for roots and leaves to develop.
Pet and child safety
Alocasia Nobilis contains calcium oxalate crystals and is harmful if chewed or swallowed. Keep it away from children and pets. Wear gloves when pruning or dividing, as the sap can irritate skin.
