Due to the sensitive and breakable nature of our products, it's understandable that damages may occur despite our meticulous packaging methods. If you find that your plant or pot has arrived in a less than satisfactory condition, please reach out to us at hello@plantsforallseasons.co.uk within a month of your delivery date. When contacting us, please provide your order reference, alongside a photo clearly showing the damaged item and its packaging, including the delivery label. We are committed to resolving such issues by offering a refund or a replacement, depending on the availability of the item in question.
We are unable to accept returns that are not related to damage because plants are inherently perishable and delicate. It's also worth noting that the plant you receive may slightly differ from the images displayed on our website. This variation is natural, given that each plant is unique and subject to seasonal growth changes.
At Plants for all Seasons, we recognise the critical role our courier partners play in ensuring the safe and secure delivery of your plants. Platycerium bifurcatum, commonly known as the Staghorn Fern or Elkhorn Fern, is one of the most iconic and sculptural tropical ferns. A member of the Polypodiaceae family and native to Australia, New Guinea, and Southeast Asia, this epiphytic fern is celebrated for its striking, antler-shaped fronds and ability to thrive mounted on wood or grown in hanging baskets.
It produces two distinct types of fronds: flat, rounded shield fronds that protect the root system and collect organic matter, and long, upright fertile fronds that branch gracefully like stag antlers. Over time, these layers create a dramatic, cascading display of textured greenery. Platycerium bifurcatum brings natural elegance and movement to interiors, making it a favourite among plant stylists and collectors.
Effortlessly tropical, timelessly beautiful, and wonderfully easy to care for, the Staghorn Fern is living sculpture — a masterpiece of nature perfect for any bright, humid room.
Thrives in bright, indirect light. Mimic its natural rainforest habitat by providing filtered sunlight or dappled shade. A few hours of gentle morning or late-afternoon sun are beneficial, but avoid harsh midday rays that can scorch the fronds.
Keep the growing medium evenly moist but not soggy. When mounted, soak the mount or basket in lukewarm water for 10–15 minutes, allowing it to drain thoroughly before rehanging. In warmer months, water once or twice weekly; in winter, reduce to every 2–3 weeks. Mist regularly to maintain humidity.
Temperature: Prefers warmth between 18–28 °C. Avoid cold drafts and temperatures below 10 °C.
Humidity: High humidity (60–80%) is essential for lush growth. Mist the fronds regularly or place near a humidifier. Bathrooms or kitchens with bright, filtered light are ideal environments.
As an epiphyte, Platycerium bifurcatum grows best mounted on a wooden board, cork bark, or tree fern plaque with sphagnum moss around its base. It can also be grown in a hanging basket filled with a coarse orchid or fern mix. Avoid heavy, compacted soil, which restricts airflow. Remount or repot every 2–3 years to refresh the growing medium.
Feed monthly in spring and summer with a diluted, balanced liquid fertiliser (at half strength). Apply via misting or soak the mount in fertiliser solution. Suspend feeding during autumn and winter when growth slows.
Do not remove the brown, papery shield fronds — they are part of the plant’s natural structure and help collect moisture and nutrients. Trim only dead or damaged antler fronds. Wipe gently with a soft brush or damp cloth to remove dust; never use leaf shine.
A moderately fast grower under ideal conditions, Platycerium bifurcatum can reach up to 90 cm to 1.2 metres across. Over time, it forms layered colonies that create a breathtaking living sculpture of overlapping fronds.
Brown patches: Overwatering or poor air circulation.
Shrivelled fronds: Low humidity or underwatering.
Black spots: Fungal issues from excessive moisture.
Pests: Occasionally affected by scale or mealybugs — treat with neem oil and improve airflow.
Native to the warm, humid forests of Australia and Southeast Asia, Platycerium bifurcatum grows naturally on tree trunks, where it absorbs moisture from rain and organic debris. Its distinctive fronds evolved to capture light and nutrients efficiently, making it one of nature’s most fascinating designs.
Non-toxic and air-purifying, this fern contributes to a calming, oxygen-rich indoor environment. Symbolically, its antler-like shape represents strength, renewal, and balance — qualities that make it a meaningful as well as visually stunning plant.
Light: Bright, indirect light; gentle morning or evening sun
Water: Keep medium moist; soak mount when dry
Temperature: 18–28 °C; avoid below 10 °C
Humidity: High (60–80%); mist regularly
Soil/Mount: Sphagnum moss, bark, or fern fibre – mounted or in hanging basket
Feed: Monthly in spring/summer
Growth: Up to 1 m wide; shield fronds with large, branching antler fronds
⚠️ Toxicity note: Non-toxic to humans and pets.
Mount Platycerium bifurcatum on a wooden board, cork slab, or tree fern plaque for a striking wall display that doubles as living art. Its sculptural form makes it ideal for vertical spaces, bathrooms, or conservatories where humidity is naturally higher. Pair with other tropical ferns like Phlebodium ‘Blue Star’ or Asparagus plumosus to create a layered rainforest aesthetic. In contemporary interiors, it adds organic texture and movement — a living masterpiece that embodies natural elegance and serenity.
