Amsonia
Amsonia is a genus of herbaceous perennials that are native to North America. They are members of the dogbane family (Apocynaceae) and are commonly grown as ornamental plants for their attractive foliage and delicate, star-shaped flowers. Amsonia is commonly grown in garden borders, rock gardens, and as a ground cover.
Amsonia has a clump-forming growth habit and produces narrow, lance-shaped leaves that are arranged in an alternate pattern along the stem. The leaves are a bright, green color in the summer and turn a golden yellow in the fall. In the spring, Amsonia produces clusters of delicate, light blue, star-shaped flowers that are held above the foliage on slender stems.
Amsonia is an easy-to-grow plant that requires minimal care. It prefers a location that receives full sun to partial shade and moist, well-draining soil. The plant should be watered regularly to keep the soil moist, especially during dry spells. Amsonia can be propagated by division in the spring or fall, and should be fertilized once a year with a balanced fertilizer.
