Baptisia
Baptisia, also known as false indigo, is a genus of flowering plants in the Fabaceae family. These herbaceous perennials are native to North America and are commonly grown for their showy flowers, attractive foliage, and drought tolerance. Baptisia are popular in cottage gardens, prairies, and naturalistic landscapes.
Baptisia have a clump-forming growth habit and produce attractive, trifoliate leaves that are typically blue-green or grey-green in color. In the late spring to early summer, they produce showy spikes of pea-like flowers that come in shades of blue, purple, yellow, and white. The flowers attract pollinators such as bees and butterflies, and are followed by attractive seedpods that persist into the fall.
