Aquilegia
Aquilegia, commonly known as columbine, is a genus of herbaceous perennials that are native to temperate regions of the Northern Hemisphere. They are members of the buttercup family (Ranunculaceae) and are commonly grown as ornamental plants for their showy, bell-shaped flowers that bloom in the spring and early summer. Aquilegia are popular in cottage gardens, rock gardens, and as cut flowers.
Aquilegia have a clump-forming growth habit and produce lobed, fern-like leaves that are arranged in an alternate pattern along the stem. The leaves are typically a medium green color and may have a bluish or purple tinge. In the spring and early summer, Aquilegia produce showy, bell-shaped flowers that are held above the foliage on slender stems. The flowers are available in a wide range of colors, including white, pink, red, yellow, blue, and purple. The distinctive flower shape of Aquilegia makes them a standout in any garden.
