Helianthus
Helianthus is a genus of flowering plants that belongs to the family Asteraceae. They are commonly known as "sunflowers" because of their large, sun-like flower heads that can reach up to a foot in diameter. Helianthus plants are native to North and South America, and are now grown in many other parts of the world as ornamental plants and for their edible seeds.
Helianthus plants have tall, upright stems that can reach up to ten feet in height. The flowers are typically yellow, with dark centers and many small, disk-shaped flowers arranged in a spiral pattern. The foliage of Helianthus plants is often green and heart-shaped, and can be quite large.
